Re: Help me decide on a ISA soundcard!

Thank you all for giving your input. = ) I didn't do a very good job of explaining my aim with the card, and my build in the first post though, so I'll add the full build-plan and a list of the DOS-games which I intend to play -I should have been clear that I'm aiming for a multi-boot machine, which …

Help me decide on a ISA soundcard!

EDIT2: Updated with my build-plan and a list of games I'm interested in. Build-plan: -------------- OS: Dos 7.1, W98, XP, W10 MB: Portwell RUBY-9719VG2AR CPU: Intel X5470 RAM: 8GB DDR2 GPU1 (DOS): Intel GMA X4500 (integrated) GPU2 (W98): Radeon 9250 (pci) GPU3 (XP32+W10x64): Geforce GTX 960 (PCI-e) …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

I may have found something... I did some googling, and this doesn't appear to have come up on Vogons. There's a Taiwanese company called ASIX which provides multiple, complex, PCIe bridge-cards - have a look here: https://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=pItemdetail&PItemID=256;74;110 The AX99100 has …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

I have a question here... I have a Asus M3A78-CM rev 1.01G motherboard in my possession, it's an AMD board, it features an SB700 southbridge chip - just to make sure, I had a look at the specs, and unless I've misunderstood it, this Southbridge has very complex DMA support, with Midi and Adlib …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

I thing that most compatible ISA cards are just Creative SB 16, or SB pro. What card is best for gaming i dont know, im not expert in ISA stuff. There is at least some source code for unofficial ALS4000 PCI sound cards, its only one which is able to play at least music on Z97 board, so maybe …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

The Winbond chips need few signals connected sraight to the southbridge chip to get IRQ and DMA functionality, those signals are not available on PCI slot and newer chipsets lack these signals which is why there's a lot of motherboards out there with ISA slots that don't have DMA and/or IRQs, only …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

Well if so nice, i dont mind some symbolic (i dont accept anything higher that 2 bucks) donate :) Haha! I might just have to do that... That, or I'll try and find some old software or hardware you might be interested in, yeah? I think that you would be first who will test some of that industrial …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

I found out that Gigabyte is still making some MB with PCI slot, at least few Z270 and 1 Z370 MB, i added them to first post. Excellent going, Ruthan! = ) I must say... I rather admire you and the people whom are helping you out in this thread - good going guys! Keep the dream of a mega-compatible …

VooDoo 5 6000 - detailed documentation?

Yeah... how much do we actually know about these cards? The 3700 revision, to be accurate - what chips do they use, what's the layout, et c? If anyone knows where to find documentation, then that would be super-lovely - and if anyone actually HAS one of these 6000 A.3700 boards, and is willing to …

Re: X58 + Yamaha7x4/AureaV1/2 Sound-pure Dos7.1- compatibility list(+i865/VIA) +research+ultimate configs, WIP- gurus needed

Few changes happened, i changed MB few months ago and its still in rebuild process. Storage: 240 GB WD cheap SSD + DVD rom on Sata to IDE cable SC3: Aureal Vortex 2 - i have General Midi adapter for Yamaha 744 - from Rayer NIC2 - Broadcom 5721M USB3 - VIA VL8xx Oh? So you're not using the Gigabyte …

Re: X58 + Yamaha7x4/AureaV1/2 Sound-pure Dos7.1- compatibility list(+i865/VIA) +research+ultimate configs, WIP- gurus needed

Yo, Ruthan, I've tried to simplify your build-text a bit - is my edited version correct? Is this the hardware you're using at the moment? Build: “Ruthan’s special” MB : Gigabyte EX-58-UD5 - X58 board (3x PCI-E Long, 1x PCI-E 4x, 1x PCI-E x1 + 2x PCI, on board IDE and Floppy, primary GPU selection …
