Re: Photos of my NVIDIA Riva 128

Even if that was completely made up, it still would be true. That is the most Apple thing I've ever heard. "Let's lose that noisy spinny thingy, it utterly spoils my feng shui, huh"? lol, I only ever knew that as a joke, the "acht inch methode" of repairing stuff. Since we don't use freedom units …

Re: Photos of my NVIDIA Riva 128

Considering the entire reason that the Apple 3 failed so spectacularly was because Steve Jobs insisted on not including a fan, Even if that was completely made up, it still would be true. That is the most Apple thing I've ever heard. "Let's lose that noisy spinny thingy, it utterly spoils my feng …

Re: Voodoo 3 Undervolting/Undercloocking

I don't think a C3 Nehemiah would be able to take advantage of anything faster. Only if you play in 640x480 mode. 1024x768 and higher, in many cases, will be bottlenecked by Voodoo 3 fillrate. Eh, not that big of a deal to me. I have other systems that can pick up the slack, like the Slot A system …

Re: Photos of my NVIDIA Riva 128

The Dell OEM Velocity 128 PCI I own came with one of those MOSFET heatsinks glued to it. Popped it off, removed all the glue I could and stuck a 40mm by 30mm by 5mm raspberry pi heatsink on it. Don't know how well it works because there seems to be an issue with the vbios (doesn't produce a image …

Re: Voodoo 3 Undervolting/Undercloocking

Maybe interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0tO6duz_4s He says, that the stock Voltage of the Voodoo 3 3000 is around 2.6V, and tryed undervolting, still runs stable with 2,25V and 10 degrees cooler. That's intriguing. I have a V3 1000 with 6ns sgram (already added a HS and 40mm delta fan …

Re: Voodoo 3 Undervolting/Undercloocking

Here are the Avenger VCores of the Voodoo 3 1000 until 3500, from the 3dfx Voodoo 3 databook: Voodoo 3 1000: 125 MHz, 2.20V Vcc Voodoo 3 2000: 143 MHz, 2.55V Vcc Voodoo 3 3000: 166 MHz, 2.69V Vcc Voodoo 3 3500 183MHz, 2.76V Vcc That's the reason ,why a V3 1000 runs stable without any cooling. And …

Re: Voodoo 3 Undervolting/Undercloocking

With a K6 300 (bottlenecking), I've seen temps reduced by up to 4 C load and idle by downclocking from 143 to 100 MHz, with 0-5% loss in performance up to 800 x 600 (tested in Quake 3, Need for Speed 5, 3DMark 99). So not a big reduction in temps, but also no clear benefit in running the card full …

Re: Voodoo 3 Undervolting/Undercloocking

Eh, I'd rather not mod the card because of its value. I wouldn't have recommended it, but since you asked? A 120mm fan blowing directly onto the card should cool that mosfet that runs hot at a minimum My point exactly, in a half-way well-ventilated case, it should be fine. Back in '99, cases relied …

Re: Voodoo 3 Undervolting/Undercloocking

Sounds a bit like wasting a perfectly good voodoo and the PCI ones are approaching something of a holy grail nowadays, don't they? But if you insist, what Doornkaat writes seems plausible and doable for a layman. Meaning, find out how and change said resistor. Or, since the power consumption of …
