Re: Reelmagic/Realmagic MPEG games

Hmmm....I wonder who that could have been! LOLOLOLOL Hmm. Now I see some tiny resemblance in the name :) I've never uploaded anything there but I'll ask my bud Dosnostalgic if he can do it for me...he's helped me in the past with that. Well, any other file sharing service would be fine, too, but …

unfortunately I still have not dug Conspiracy out of storage Well, I still hope that you will be able to share it one day... , but I recently picked up the Prince game and I should have that on hand. I am willing to archive it if someone tells me the preferred method to do so. Great, thanks in …

And 'Phantasmagoria' was on seven CDs, still with DOS support. Of MPEG games, I have 'Silent Steel', which is on 4 CDs (but only for Windows).

No, the EGA/VGA difference is certainly not the case here! The game on the first picture is the VGA version, but some broken kind of it probably. The EGA version looks quite different: download/file.php?mode=view&id=81826

The ReelMagic card worked in DOS too. I don't know if you thought they didn't or I misread that but I used to own one back in the day with my 386 =). I was talking about PCI. I have three ISA REALmagic cards - of course they work in DOS! But my PCI cards do not - they do not have DOS drivers. @Uka …

Re: Reelmagic/Realmagic MPEG games

in DOS
I have just found that there was an MPEG decoder card called MPEGstar by California Graphics based on S3 chip that had ReelMagic-compatible drivers. Even PCI boards seem to have worked in DOS (in difference from the real REALmagic by Sigma Designs). The supported DOS titles included not only ' …

Ah, yes, there are some vertical lines visible with the feature connector being used. I did not have them before (see the left picture) as I used a Cirrus Logic videocard then without the internal connector - as far as I know, those lines appear mostly on Trident cards. Do you have one? However they …

TimWolf wrote: Will the Creative DXR cards work on these special MPEG games? I don't think they would. Creative DXR are MPEG2 (DVD) decoder cards - there were some games made just for them (like 'Wing Commander IV - DVD'). But I highly doubt they support the proprietary ReelMagic API for MPEG (1).

Re: ReelMagic MPEG Decoder running Return to Zork

in Marvin \ Video
There are two versions of Reelmagic, one using a Feature connector attached to the VGA card, and the other using a pass through overlay for the VGA card. As I have written in another topic (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=63530&start=40#p775144), 'Return to Zork' requires the earlier …

Can anyone with 'Return to Zork' MPEG disk please check the date of its creation? I an curious because the CD I have is dated 2nd of June 1994 (with the READ.ME dated 25th of May 1994) - while the usual disk version advertises the ReelMagic edition as the one that was going to be available on the …

jesolo , thanks for the part of the manual! It is interesting that it mentions connecting PC Speaker to 'Phone' as well. I think the second pin is for ground but, I don't think it's required when you connect the wire between your sound card and your motherboard's speaker header. Yes, but why the …

Re: DSS / Covox Speech Thing exclusive games

I happen to have bought my Sound Galaxy Basic/Pro16 new(uses the same chipset as the NX Pro 16) and it came with a speaker wire that only has a red wire. Ah, that's interesting! So what's the second pin for? Does your card come with any manual? My card is NX Pro Extra (I38-SGNXPRO), but yes, cards …

Re: DSS / Covox Speech Thing exclusive games

I can take a picture of the manual of how to connect the PC Speaker wire to the sound card. Well, I did not wait for that picture and made today a connector to try everything myself :) It is strange, but both ways of connecting the wire (red+black and black+red) give the same result - and neither …

info I found in Google Groups it looks like the patch fixed issues with PAS 16 soundcards That is just a quote from earlier versions of Readme, before the patch was actually made. And those are not just ProAudio Spectrum 16 - that's an example of "Some sound cards", and there are more bugs fixed …

Do you know the filename? Unfortunately, not. It is just mentioned in README for drivers: "Crystal Dynamics has provided a fix for this in the form of a new HORDE.EXE. It is available on the Sigma Designs BBS for download." I hope they have transferred it to their FTP as well... Still, I suppose it …
