Thinkpad T40, T41 and T42 has Mobility Radeon 7500 or 9000 These are W98 compatible. The T43 is however not. High end T42 can have Radeon 9600. How's the W98 compatibility on that one? Looks like it's officialy supported. https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkpad-Drivers/download.lenovo.com/lenovo/ …

IS61C512 is pin compatibile with IS61C1024. Looks like that you tested lower half of the 128kB chip. It means it's probably good in 90%. With simple adapter it should be posible to test both part of the SRAM.

It's well known issue of this card under DOS. There is some kind of PnP detection mechanism implemented in Aztech drivers that don't work, or it's just very picky about PnP device ID. For DOS the simplest solution is UNISOUND.

Yeah, 7300 and 7700 series seem to be the only ones that have those chips in TSOP form factor Compaq Armada 7400 and 7800 series uses ES692F with integrated 1MB ROM. ES690F and ES689 have 21 bit adress space (up to 4MB). ES981 needs only 19 bit adress and ES982 should have 20 bit address line. …

This Card also appears to have a QSound QX2130 QXpander chip onboard. From a quick look up this is a sound processor? Does this do some sort of effect processing? QX2130 features: Virtual 3D sound from ordinary audio signals. Three enhanced modes: - Pro Listening - Wide Listening - Wow for Games

I think that resistor responsible for contract is R44 27k (may vary betwen versions). It is connected between ground and pin V_LCD. I suggest to replace it with 50k potentiometer. Service manual page 9

Unfortunately it's rather hard to find those type information. Sometimes it's easier to disassemble laptop. Exception was Compaq/HP laptops where you can find list of key components.

Looks like it's Yamaha YMF753. You can check a block diagram in service manual.

C30 should be 47nF and X12 probably decoupling capacitor 47-100nF. Page 15-16.

the GM music doesn't work on Doom, but the sound effects do Just in case i checked Doom switching back and forth betwen FM and GM, and seems to work properly every time. Same on Settlers 2, Monkey Island 2 and HoMM 2. It's hard to tell where is the problem.

About AD186 GM, I continue researching... Do you know if the original drivers use a TSR for internal WT MIDI or not? Digital data from external wavetable synthesizer goes on port I2S(1) of the AD1816 chip to internal DAC. In driver mixer I2S(1) has its own volume control. Maybe its muted? MPU401 …

I just tested CT4390, CT4500, CT4520 with UNIOSOUND 0.70c and both channels were equally loud with CQM. Same with AWE and digital sound. But the card does the same with the creative drivers so I think my card is partially broken. I didn’t notice before because I hit the reset button to quickly test …
