Re: Flickering or missing pixels on display

Unfortunately, I can only give approximations at the moment. I'll try to get a picture later. The one on the top is an approximation of what happens from the ATI Rage Pro Turbo. The one on the bottom is from another ATI card (a Rage Pro PCI) What I'm having trouble with is the Feature Connector. The …

Flickering or missing pixels on display

I was using one of my other video cards (an ATI All-in Wonder Turbo) for a while based on how reliable it was, but now I'm starting to question it. It's most obvious when playing Doom for DOS, or the Boom sourceport. The sprite representing the Doom Marine's hand shows missing pixels, several HUD …

Re: Actual Video (As in, how to play them) Thread

I think we can finally put this question to rest. It DOES depend on one of the following, although I can't pinpoint it: *The video card and/or drivers *The memory buffer size *System Acceleration I tested it on my nVidia geForce 5500, and I get the same error I normally did with the Virge, but …

Re: Actual Video (As in, how to play them) Thread

Does it matter which video card one uses in their system? I seemed to have more luck getting it working with an ATI Rage Pro Chip (in the from of the All-in-Wonder, which seems to use DirectX more tightly) than the one I currently use (An ExpertColor S3 Virge, which was made before Direct X became …

Re: Actual Video (As in, how to play them) Thread

VLC tells me that the video codec is "AVC1", while the audio codec is "MPGA" (WMP said it was MP2/MPEG-Layer II). Windows Media Player Classic from the K-Lite Codec Pack says it's H.264. What's confusing me is that I swear I was able to get these MP4 codecs running before, without trouble. I've read …

Actual Video (As in, how to play them) Thread

In Windows 98SE, I was previously able to view MP4 files on Windows Media Player 9 (AND Windows Media Player Classic!) with the K-Lite Codec Pack, but now WMP doesn't seem to understand or recognize the MP4 codec, even though it's been installed! It does play the audio track just fine, though. I …

Re: Jill of the Jungle Sound Effects

in DOS
Ahhhh... now THAT's what I want to hear! I was disappointed when I first heard the GOG version's staticky/heavily-distorted edition of the soundtrack. Thanks for bringing back some 20-year-old memories. 😁

Re: Doom II choppy sound...

I don't want to want to put all my eggs in one basket, but I think I may have fixed it... I swapped 2 of the cards around (Only two, because the rest needed to stay in their places due to size and possibly hard-coded restraints): nVidia GEForce FX 5500 (Stayed because AGP card) ExpertColor S3 Virge …

Re: Doom II choppy sound...

Checking the Device Manager System Resource Report didn't show any conflicts. Well... not for the sound card. I'm assuming it's normal for lots of devices to have the same IRQ? (i.e. IRQ 9 for multiple ACPI devices, or IRQ 10 for the Video Card and VGA graphics driver?) I don't see any problems with …

Re: Doom II choppy sound...

Sorry about that. I figured I'd be giving too much info, and that the problem was simpler than resource conflicts. My SET BLASTER is "A220 I5 D1 H6 T6" The SB16 card isn't plug and play. It's a 1992 SB16. Also, CTCM doesn't show anything, while CTCU says that it "cannot be run under Win95 or Win3.1 …
