I recall you really just need to bend it away from the drive. It was a bit scary and maybe I wasn't doing it the right way but I couldn't see how else 😁

Nice one, thanks! I have the 466 case in your second picture and those rails look the same. I needed to mount a 3.5" floppy drive so used a Dell adapter like you have for your floppy drive. I think it was advertised as coming from a Dell Server case so this is probably beneficial for a few different …

Thanks for the info! I forgot the tantalum pads were different sizes! I'll have to take my board out again and have another look at it. What Dell 386 do you have? a System 333P by any chance? 😀

Thanks for the cap info! I removed my capacitors a long while back and never got around to replacing them yet. I wasn't 100% sure what the markings on the caps meant but I've just found the list of the capacitors and locations I made back then and it's kinda obvious... '10, 16v, 201' '23p, 3.3, 50v' …

I have this board too, but also without cache card or vram upgrade. I've not seen the cache card for this appear at all on ebay in the last few years. Doe anyone have a list of the replacement cap values? My board is currently capless due to them leaking but I was never 100% sure from the markings …

I have the horizontal desktop style case Gateway 2000 P5-75 and I do recall changing DIP switches to overclock to 90mhz. I thiiiink I could have gone further than that but didn't really want to stress the machine out - I've owned it from new and am a bit attached to it! I dropped it back to 75mhz …

That's a 2000s era Gateway mouse. It's definitely PS/2 only. Those microsoft mice usually say on the sticker underneath if it supports serial and ps/2. I've a few of these gateway mice ranging from 1995 onwards and I don't think any of them support serial mode.

I don't think I'd even heard of bus mice until about 3 years ago. What was the advantage of it over a good old serial mouse?

I wouldn't be considering non SMD caps. Would SMD MLCCs or Tantalums work instead of the SMD electrolytics, and which one would be better?
