Re: No-name ES688F card: Time to ditch it?

Some progress with this card! I still haven't found any documentation, and there's still not an ESS utility in the 'verse that will talk to it. But I've got it set up on a test bench now, initialising it with SET BLASTER parameters only, and I've spent the afternoon experimenting with jumpers. I'll …

Re: IBM Music Feature Card/Yamaha FB-01

Another update for SoftIMFC: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1qorqr9ppyorod6/SoftIMFC.zip?dl=0 This time it should really work on MPU-401. In the earlier version the init code was never called, so it never switched the MPU-401 into UART mode. Which meant it only worked if the MPU-401 was already in UART- …

Re: PCMCIA Storage

Here's my parallel port PCMCIA flash reader. I use a CompactFlash adapter in it. It's one of my favourite things ever. There's no easier tool for slinging data between my DOS and 9x machines. I discovered this family of devices, and the associated DOS drivers thanks to Ozzuneoj's thread. Then I …

Re: Who Rocks General MIDI Harder? KORG.

in Milliways
Well they sound quite different from SC. Is it worth it? Is any of this worth it? I find being able to switch between midi modules adds quite a lot of enjoyment to gaming. But it is not a cheap thrill. I do hear you. I just took delivery of a Yamaha FB-01, which with the help of SoftIMFC will be …

Re: Who Rocks General MIDI Harder? KORG.

in Milliways
I've been looking at a Korg Ns5R listing (it's in Melb, Aus) and have decided not to succumb to the temptation. My use is gaming so there's little point spending money on more GM if you already have a Sound Canvas. Interesting units though, with an internal wavetable header! LGR stacks it up against …

Re: Tseng labs ET4000AX - no color = problem

Yep, my motherboard (Asus ISA-386C) has such a jumper. It's labelled MONO/CGA, but the data sheet actually says position 1 is EGA/VGA/MONO, and position 2 is CGA. In any case, this had no effect on the behaviour for me. The card (which is Tseng, not Trident) has a solitary jumper on it labelled …

Re: Tseng labs ET4000AX - no color = problem

Excuse the bump, but I was just about to start a thread for this, and then happened to find the solution here. The exact same scenario: New 386 build, ET4000AX, and a monitor only displaying in monochrome. The monitor is a Compaq 1024: Compaq1024.PNG Weirdly enough I have a "newer" (but still pretty …
