Nice! Thanks. It didn't even occur to me that the male end would be mini-toslink. That means that the cable Darry linked should also be a solution without any modification required.

Possibly! A 3D print might be a solution too, since I'm pretty sure it's nothing more than a mechanical device to hold the plug there.

Are you sure about a PS4 controller having native Win9x support? I think those will only work with XInput. The PS4 controller works under Windows 98 on real hardware, the specs in my sig. I did not have to install any drivers. I texted with Tie Fighter and it just worked. Yep, this is the truth. …

I had the chance to buy a Roland MPU-IPC-T breakout box locally for $15 last year. I passed on it, as the chances of the required ISA card appearing were zero. Interesting question. I've had a 688 crash in the same way, but only in socket 7 systems (166mhz & 200mhz). MPU-401 was first implemented on the SB16. For older SBs that have MIDI but no MPU-401 compatibility, you can try running SoftMPU which has a /SBMIDI option to route to the port. But game compatibility won't be 100%.
