Re: My Pentium III build

An audio upgrade for my retro build. Original multimedia speakers from FujitsuSiemens. New 3" full-range drivers from Peerless, amplifier is SMSL Q5 Pro and soundcard is Sound Blaster Audigy SB0090 1.jpg 2.jpg IMG_20210514_192837.jpg IMG_20210708_200008.jpg setup.jpg Here´s a video: https://youtu.be …

Re: Compaq Presario 9538

Okay, so I got me a brand new 2 Gb CF card and plugged it in. It detects as type 65, as it should, but after I boot, it just hangs with a blinking dot in the upper left corner. I think I might have wrong BIOS boot (PC setup). Could you provide a link to the correct download?

Re: My Pentium III build

Great job on replacing the motherboard capacitors..... what did you use to unsolder them with? Figure, if and when i t came time for me to do the same with my motherboards and/or video cards, this unsoldering gun seems top notch, albeit expensive, but highly worth it from the YT videos i've seen. …

Re: Compaq Presario 9538

Sorry for being so passive in this thread! :D I managed to talk myself into a great job which requires me to relocate, so I´ve been looking for a new apartment and packing my stuff for the past month or so. I´ll get to start working on this again sometime in June. Thanks for your input, I´ll report …

Re: Compaq Presario 9538

Incoming wall of text... Well, I now have two Presario 9548, which are almost exactly the same as Khyypio's 9538, so I'm posting here. I think anything I learn, will apply to his computer as well. Both have dead cmos batteries, which are soldered in 3 point CR1632 type. I dont have any external …

Re: Compaq Presario 9538

I'd start with replacing the battery. I have had many a motherboard in the past refuse to post with a dead battery. I also have a Compaq presarrio 4402 aio that will not post if it's battery is dead. Really? I thought a dead CMOS battery just won´t save BIOS settings. If this is true, I could´ve …

Re: Compaq Presario 9538

These files are for a 9536, but I think will be useful on your 9538: https://drivers.eu/PC/Compaq/Presario%209536 If your still unable to get the system to boot, could the floppy drive be bad, or perhaps the cmos battery is dead. You might need to unsolder the battery and replace it, I have had to …

Re: Can two PCI sound cards work together?

Well, this solution wasn´t as streamlined as I hoped. These two cards can indeed work as I originally intended: Live in Windows and Solo-1 in DOS. SB Live, less suprisingly, functions without problems in Windows, but Solo-1 worked in DOS only to an extend. I couldn´t get any sound out of Turrican 2 …

Re: Can two PCI sound cards work together?

-Just plug in both cards -Install Windows drivers for the Live, disable the Solo in device manager. -Get Dos drivers for the Solo-1, I haven't used this card myself, if the Dos driver is just an executable you can run, run it after booting into Dos instead of it putting it in autoexec.bat to …

Re: Can two PCI sound cards work together?

PARUS made a mixer for use with the Live! and Audigy under DOS that will help your achieve you goal. Ah okay, so if I understand this correctly, initially it´s not possible to pass Solo-1 sound through Live in pure DOS mode and I can enable such a feature with this mixer? This is very useful …

Can two PCI sound cards work together?

I want to use 2 different PCI sound cards in my system for different purposes: Sound Blaster Live! (or Audigy, etc) for Windows games and ESS Solo-1 for DOS games. Like shown in the picture, I also want to connect these cards in such a way that I don´t have to switch inputs in my speaker set. …

Re: Using Audigy drivers with a Sound Blaster Live

Joseph_Joestar wrote on 2021-02-02, 10:57: It's unlikely that the drivers could cause a hardware failure. Probably just an unfortunate coincidence. For what it's worth, I've been using them on my own SB0100 for almost a year now and had no issues. Very possible. Maybe they conflict with my network …

Re: Using Audigy drivers with a Sound Blaster Live

My beloved SB0100 died yesterday evening, may its soul rest in peace. Now, I don´t know if it´s related to this method because these drivers actually worked very well with it and it seems odd that they would just kill it all of a sudden. Although, I did try install a network card on my machine and …
