I think most people moved away from DOS once they got Windows 95. Unless they specifically needed to use it. Win95 obviously began a big change in what users expected and brought in many more users to PCs.

I haven't seen any problems with Core 2 and Win10. 4GB is a bit tight but it's adequate for web, email, and a basic office suite. You want an SSD though and a discrete GPU with Win10 drivers, so you aren't sharing system RAM and you aren't on video drivers meant for Vista as the IGP would be.

Just having a system SSD not chained to the AMD SATA controllers from the Phenom times is already a substantial win. I'm not sure I understand how NVMe is going to help a K6 with only 133MB/s PCI though. A NVMe drive might rival its L1 cache bandwidth 🤣

I am not sure they are underrated for anything or underrated at any point in time. They are of course another interesting piece of history though. The P4 was a great opportunity for AMD.

I'm pretty sure if you dig up an old enough version you can find a Media Player Classic that doesn't require SSE. I used it on a K6-3 in the early 2000s. K-Lite Codec Pack 3.45 supports Win98. Maybe it has DXVA-HD support. Will the video drivers allow H.264 acceleration without even SSE1 though....
