Re: Overheating Voodoo 3 3000

in Marvin \ Video
I will get a PIII when I find a good deal to investigate this issue further, but I found another possible cause: It seems that with the full 800MHz speed (133MHz * 6), the AGP Bus was clocked at 89Hz, which could explain the overheating. Still if anyone could confirm that the card runs hot even …

I downclocked my system to 100MHz*6 The system seems more stable now. The heatsink still gets hot in BIOS, but it ran for 30min now without overheating. It only worries me, if it will still handle well when actually using it for actual 3D games instead of just BIOS EDIT: I cannot find the CPU VCore …

Thank you again for the answers. The CPU converter board I am using (MS6905 Ver2) should automatically use the right voltage; at least in theory. Unfortunately I don't have another processor on hand to test this. But if I can't solve the problem I will just downgrade, since DOS gaming and Adlib …

I figured that at least in BIOS it would be fine. I'll get a second case fan that blows directly onto it soon, but now I am not sure if I have to mod the cooler as well or if my card is just faulty

Overheating Voodoo 3 3000

in Marvin \ Video
I recently started building my first DOS PC and almost all the parts are already here. At least all the parts needed to post. So I thought I'll look around BIOS. But after a few minutes, BIOS suddenly exited and the PC did not want to restart resulting in a single long beep repeating every few …

Re: My first retro build

Thank you again for the in-depth information I think that about covers everything. So I am ready to order the rest of my parts. I'll take a few more days to decide between the Ezra/Nehemiah and research what kind of RAM & PSU wattage I need. Thank you again, this build got so much better. I cannot …

Re: My first retro build

I am a bit confused. The manual of the board (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-6BXC/support#support-manual) says that the speeds are configured with dip switches, not software. Also that the AGP slot is only 2x and the Geforce cards you recommended seem 4x according to Wikipedia. I am not too …

Re: My first retro build

That board seems to tick all my boxes, thank you for the recommendation. I found a Rev2 one and will try to get it. I found a 1200MHz Nehemia for the same price as the Ezra, so since I won't really lose anything I'll take this one instead. It's nice to have more options in the future but anything …

Re: My first retro build

Thank you so much for all the answers and insight. I already have the CT2940 and it does have a real OPL3 chip. Although it seems a bit small; might me the -L variant? Adding a Sound Blaster Live for EAX sounds like a good fit. You guys convinced me to go with an Slot 1 build. Using a more modern …

My first retro build

Hey guys, I finally bit the bullet and am building a dedicated retro PC. Even after reading through many resources, I still feel a little bit unsure and would appreciate feedback to my plan. I hope this thread is not against the rules; I haven't really found guidelines about this. Originally I …
