Re: Convert PC Booter to EXE [MULE]

in DOS
My DOS conversion of M.U.L.E. is included in the latest (v19, August 2021) release of TDC. Awesome! Thank you so much! After reading the first post in this thread, I was curious if someone hadn't done it before. After two minutes, I found this version. As apprently my google-fu isn't up to par, I'd …

Re: Convert PC Booter to EXE [MULE]

in DOS
Well I was indeed able to debug the boot sector and could trace it to the point where it jumps out of the boot loader. It reads some sectors from disk and then jumps to 0000:f000 starting the program execution -> so unfortunately it cannot be simulated by just dumping the memory into a binary I …

Convert PC Booter to EXE [MULE]

in DOS
MULE is a very interesting, ancient multi-player game (economic simulation) with ports to various systems. The formula to derive the economics vary from platform to platform. Some years ago a DOS-port was rediscovered, so I wanted to take a look at that DOS port. Thinking that would be probably easy …

Interesting: the CGA version can be succesfully unpacked with this open-source tool: https://sourceforge.net/projects/opentitus/ Generates a .lvl file, but it's actually a dos exe. Disassembly looks very similar to the EGA/VGA version.

I think there also was huge split after Final Cut Pro X drama, which moved some pros to Adobe and other stuff, even if it was still confined within Mac platform. That's what I was thinking about. It's not that within one blink of a moment everything goes bonkers, but rather that maybe Apple itself …

daily driver is an almost ancient Thinkpad T420... planning an upgrade this year. But with an SSD, docking station and external monitor, the T420 is actually fast enough for everyday things, including programming...

I'd hope for a really good remake of Pirates... the 200x one was quite mediocre. But the rights are probably with Firaxis/2k anway... Also a F1GP remake for modern systems would rock...

Re: What game are you playing now?

Command & Conquer, Red Alert. Now with the remake, I have to say that this is indeed still _the_ defining RTS for me. Starcraft maybe tops Red Alert, but came out much later. And when thinking of single-player vs multiplayer, the single-player experience with all thouse cheesy videos and acting is …

I realyl think Apple is more and more moving away from pro customers. When Jobs took over, Apple really found a niche with pro-customers & artists, i.e. Sound, Video, FX etc. Even a lot of programmers swiched, because you could finally get a Unix workstation without having all driver/compatiblity/ …

Re: NT3.51 Just turned 25 Today!

It's interesting how time changes perspective. Back in the day I hated Microsoft with passion, as the whole Windows 9x line was unstable and crashed so often, as well as their business practices. Nowaday I understand what they achieved, given that back in the industry everyone was playing with these …
