If you would benefit from the above advantages then I would pick PCI board even if it had slightly worse performance than VLB board. Both boards have PCI; one has VLB in addition. I went ahead and ordered the Soyo board with SiS496 chipset. From the feedback I got here, it seems the better option …

Interesting! I've seen several BIOS versions over the internet for the 4SAW2, and even an Asus bios modded for it. Would a simple BIOS update fix this board's performance?

Thank you guys. I got YMF724. The 744 and 754 have 4 sound channels instead of 2 and other features that I'm not interested in. They are also much more expensive than 724 on ebay currently.

I just tested the system again using many tools, including Memtest86, and no errors were found. I'll wait for the ordered CPU and see if that solved the problem with new OS'. If not, then I'll consider recapping the boards. Filename SSTIMG01.png File size 12.1 KiB Views 934 views
