Horun, thanks for the reply. Even booting directly into DOS using F8, SNDINIT.EXE still returns the same error. Not sure if its related but the CD-ROM audio is also not working.

I know this is an old thread, but I also have a DX4-100 Valuepoint and had a terrible time with the floppy drive even with a replacement. Turns out the ribbon cable was bad. Just a thought.

On my machine, my DX4-100 shows as 100 MHz with a 33 MHz FSB (3x multiplier), but shows as 80 MHz with a 40 MHz multiplier and 100 MHz at 50 MHz FSB (2x mulitplier). Any comment on USB cards for old 486 systems? The one I have now works, sort of. I can use a flash drive briefly and copy a few files back and forth, but it is really unstable in Windows 98SE and Win2000. I have the Opti PCI chipset.
