Re: Anyone here on Mastodon/the Fediverse?

in Milliways
I don't even like social media so decentralizing it like this is not likely going to make me want to participate in the concept any better. I hear you! I'm dipping a toe or two myself in it, and I do like the idea of owning my data. Was just looking for interesting VOGON-ers to follow 😀 Nice Blog …

Anyone here on Mastodon/the Fediverse?

in Milliways
Hi there, A lot of interesting retro pc/gamer stuff can also be found on Reddit (retrogaming, vintagecomputing) or of course Twitter. It's always inspiring to read what others are up to. I noticed that not everyone takes the trouble to create a forum topic at VOGONS to show off their stuff or ask a …

Re: MPU-401 DOS Audigy emulation no sound in Win98

Run the Audigy uninstaller, then reboot into safe mode. Device manager will list any installed driver even if the hardware isn't present. Delete any Creative sounds devices for the Audigy or SB128. Next run regedit and delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Creative Good idea, after an hour of …

MPU-401 DOS Audigy emulation no sound in Win98

Hi guys, After hours of fiddling with config settings, searching through VOGONS, following various guides such as this one , and the other guy who's struggling , and I think I need some help. So, I upgraded from a pci128 to an Audigy. First problem: old driver uninstaller crashed, so possible …

It is worth it to upgrade a SB PCI128 to a Live!?

Hi guys, I bought an old PC case that had nostalgic values for me (AOpen HQ45) and it came with a motherboard and some cheap cards I threw out in favour for an Athlon-based board. I built a Win98SE PC like so many of you, but it turned out that the only PCI sound card I own is one that came with the …

Re: Mystic Towers music/soundfx stops playing after 10 seconds

in DOS
Yep, setting the base I/O address to 220 will definitely help. Further analysis showed that even though the code parses the BLASTER string and sets the base address variables accordingly, there are still a couple of instances in the code that are hard-coded for base address 220 and prevent the …

Re: Mystic Towers music/soundfx stops playing after 10 seconds

in DOS
It's NOT missing, it's there, and yes the games shows the settings correctly, like I said in my first post. Otherwise, the sound would not have been played at all. Strangely enough. digger, I'll try that and get back to you - I was hoping not to open the case for the nth time but oh well.

[SOLVED] Mystic Towers music/soundfx stops playing after 10 seconds

in DOS
Hi VOGONS fellows, On my 486 with a SB16, all other games working and sounding perfectly, Mystic Towers somehow stops its sound propagation to the SB card after 10 seconds or so. It's really strange, when I go into settings and choose HIGH Q. music again (even if it's "enabled" since the floating …

Re: EZ-Drive Dynamic Drive Overlay

Responding to an old message here, but: -They change the partition type of the drive to prevent any other machines from accessing the contents of the drive. This used to not be a problem in the Windows 9x days as you could kick start a machine with an EZDrive or Ontrack equipped floppy, but its not …
