Retrospective Video on Savage Warriors

in Milliways
Hi everyone, I've recently re-discovered Savage Warriors, the fighting game for MS Dos and made a video about it. Played that game for quite a while back then and really like the characters and their 3D look. ^^ Thought this might interest a few of you, so here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/ …

Searching large low-resolution Pixel Art Images

in Milliways
Hello, I want to print my own mousepad and I'd love to put some art from old point and click adventures on it. But as the resolutions of those EGA/VGA games was so low I don't think it will look great. Now I don't want to put multiple images on there so I'm looking for a nice art-work in the old …

Filters not working with EGA games?

I tried different filters with the "forced" argument and "aspect" true and false but whenever I start an EGA game there's no filtering going on. I've tried two different DosBox versions but that didn't help, I tried surface and opengl but no luck either. When I start a VGA game everything is fine ( …

I only know a few …

Ok, seems like Al Lowe doesn't exactly know why they used the EGA640.DRV either. 😄 I wasn’t involved with that driver’s development, so I’m not a good source for you. But there’s one thing I know about AGI and SCI: they were continually evolving, so often that you couldn’t use a driver from May with …

Try contacting Al Lowe for example, his website appears to be still active. https://allowe.com/ And you could try contacting someone from Agdinteractive. I might be able to contact someone I knew years ago. I make no promisses. That's cool, I'll give it a try Try browsing this website: https:// …

@good_punk: Should you make that video it might be a good idea of not just investigating how that driver does its thing but also why it was even created to begin with. That would definetly be interesting... I can try to contact some folks that used to work at Sierra... but I don't have high hopes …

3.) Yes it is very intensive. There's a lot of calculation to be done to get that VGA images converted to EGA with the diterhing. You can actually see that when you turn the Cycles in DosBox down... the game becomes much more demanding when you use EGA. And yes... it is kind of self-defeating but …

3.) The fascinating thing for me is that the art was not produced in EGA but it's all done programmatically. The driver takes 256 color VGA images and through a clever dithering algorithm produces that hi-res EGA output. Yes Sierra were not the only one doing that, it's still very cool in my opinion …

https://gamicus.fandom.com/wiki/Sierra_Creative_Interpreter It seems every game from the SCI1.1 (1.001.xxx) list works perfectly if you add the EGA640.DRV and change the resource.cfg settings. 😀

Re: How does Sierra's EGA640.DRV even work?

in DOS
I think it's the other way around. Larry5 and Police Quest 3 are the SCI 1.0 games and SQ5 is an SCI 1.1 game. So the 1.0 games use the .cur files and don't work properly where the 1.1 games work just fine. :) I don't know if it's possible to upgrade a game from 1.0 to 1.1 and regarding the cursors …

Re: How does Sierra's EGA640.DRV even work?

I have put the EGA640.DRV file in the directory of Larry5 and Police Quest 3 (They didn't come with one... at least not in my version) and changed the resources.cfg to use that driver. When I start theses games the mouse cursor is invisible. I've opened the resource files in SCI Companion and …
