I received the Sandisk 512 MB CF today. FDisk worked all right and I was able to format it and install MS-DOS 5.0 on it. It boots nice and quiet and I gather it’ll be more reliable than the microdrive.

Keyb was not set in in autoexec.bat as I remembered. On further investigation I noticed that backslash actually works. The tilde, however doesn’t, unless I change to Germany from the BIOS settings. Both layouts should have the tilde on the same key based on the reference pictures.

My Schneider EuroPC has the German keyboard layout, but I’m using the Swedish mapping and it works fine with those Scandinavian characters. I bought a 512 MB Sandisk card from ebay. I’ve had a pretty good track record with Sandisk cards, so let’s see how it goes with this one, when it arrives.

I figured that might be the case. It’s getting harder to get small capacity and PIO cards locally. I need to go eBay for those. I guess I’ll keep just using the microdrive until I can get a replacement.

Yes, the XT-IDE recognizes the card and only Fdisk fails.

Try manually configuring the disk parameters in the BIOS. For the SE440BX-2 board I own, if I use any consumer-grade (I haven't used industrial) Compact Flash greater than 8GB, I have to manually set disk detection to "manual" and LBA to "enabled." I wonder if I can finally call my EuroPC fixed… I found one more broken connection between one of the address latches and the video chip. That was causing the Sierra SCI games not to work and also Check-it was crashing. Now both work, and I’m able to enjoy the Plantronics ColorPlus graphic modes.

Problem sorted! I had one broken trace between one of the address latch chips and the video chip. Made a quick bodge and now I’m able to play the Sierra SCI games in glorious 16 colors with my EuroPC. I was wondering if Thexder would be able to use the Plantronics driver?

I got my Schneider EuroPC repaired to running condition. I got the pcplus.drv driver and tried them with Codename ICEMAN and Leisure Suit Larry 2, which both use the SCI engine. I was able to select the Plantronics Plus driver from the settings but both games failed to run, showing just some garbage …

Did some probing. The biggest issue with the adapter is that pin 7 (+5V) from EuroPC connects to ground which causes a short. Also pin 9 and pin 11 connect to ground. Pin 9 is key and pin 11 is power on. I suspect that pin 11 needs to be grounded but pin 7 and 9 should be removed. The other thing is …

The worm screw was working, and depending on the position of the moon the drive spins and keeps on spinning until the whole computer freezes. If the drive doesn’t spin, the head motor just lets out a short grunt and gives an error about not finding a boot floppy, even though a bootable floppy is …

Well, the floppy drive seems to have issues. The activity led turns on and either the hed or main motor grunts shortly at powerup. The head doesn’t move though and doesn’t try to read after POST. Not sure whether the worm screw is seized. The disc doesn’t spin either.
