Re: which video card should I keep

in Marvin \ Video
Just for my curiosity , what's wrong with the Mach64 CT ? I'm using one (Upgraded to 2MB) for my late DOS machine with a Voodoo. But i never really thought about using another one. (that, and also because i'm an ATI fan) I have a Trio64V2DX waiting in a box and a Matrox MGA-2064W / IS-STORM comming …

Re: Bought these games today

in Milliways
Hmm I generally i'm more into hardware, but i could not resist today. Sale event in a local charity store... They usually have a few games, but this time, they had a (temporary ?) retro software corner... IMG_20220807_000314.jpg IMG_20220807_000330.jpg IMG_20220807_000323.jpg The Matrox Graphic card …

I would not recommend WD-40 in this application. It is a very light mineral oil - standard lubricating oil will work much better and, more importantly, much longer. WD40 was developed to displace water, not for long term lubrication. Here's what I use. Thanks, i will look into that 👍 (But the one i …

I generally disassemble totally every GPU i get. Clean everything with alcohol. Replace thermal paste and pads. This includes completely cleaning an lubricating the fan. For quiet operation, it must be free of any dust (air flows more silently without dust) And you can add a drop or two of WD40 in …

Re: [Advice needed] I'm reaching my collection goal and currently considering stopping. What is your goal ?

I have a weird Parhelia .. I got the PCI-X version for my P4 server board, its an odd duck being a PCIe version at its heart Oh, by the way, since you have a PCI-X one (mine is AGP), i have a question :) Some PCI-X cards are PCI retrocompatible. For example, i have a PCI-X 3Ware SATA RAID card that …

Re: [Advice needed] I'm reaching my collection goal and currently considering stopping. What is your goal ?

At least, for the moment, on thing i really stick to is the time period : 1996->2010 I think i never bought something outside that timespan. The older stuff i have is there because i ended up with it, but not because i bought them (A few old 486 and Pentium laptops and a Thomson TO9). I have no …

Re: [Advice needed] I'm reaching my collection goal and currently considering stopping. What is your goal ?

Thank you very much for your comments [...] Started collecting vintage hardware during Covid-19 pandemic (suddenly you have lots of free time, you know ... ). [...] Searching and buying things online of course is also part of the fun, so I buy whatever I want and whenever I want. Of course I keep in …

Re: [Advice needed] I'm reaching my collection goal and currently considering stopping. What is your goal ?

My long term plan for once I’d collected everything I wanted to collect was to start content creation for the public to consume. This wouldn’t be a replacement for my typical income, just a hobby and a way to ensure that my collection gets rotated in and out of use as and when I create new content. …

[Advice needed] I'm reaching my collection goal and currently considering stopping. What is your goal ?

Hi TL;DR I've been collecting retro stuff since the late 90's ... and i'm really considering to stop. Just to clarify, i'm not talking about throwing away everything. But just stopping adding things to my collection. I think i'm about to reach my goal, even if the goal itself was never strictly …

I have two Voodoo 1. One with bare chips, the other one came with heatsinks already installed (probably from factory) The one i have is probably a Generic/NoName card but it looks like the ColorMax one on this page http://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/cards/item/1-3dfx-voodoo-1 Since it's quite …

Re: ATi Mach64 WinBoost - Memory expansion chips

in Marvin \ Video
Hello You seek places like utsource or contact some actual parts broker. Ebay prices are always very inflated. Just a quick follow-up about the memory expansion. After you suggestion, i ordered chips from utsource. The shipping was quite fast. Unfortunately, i was quite busy recently and could not …
