Re: Woodruff game gets stuck all the time...

in Windows
XP might not only become outdated because of Longhorn; there are some interesting changes in hardware. I still live at my parents house and I don't own the computer I use. As soon as I move out I will have to buy my own computer. I don't know what operating system will be on it and what hardware it …

Well, I'm only exaggerating, I'm not trying to offend anyone. I know microsoft is trying hard to write a better OS right now, but they've had a lot of setbacks. I don't know if it would be a wise decision to buy XP at this time, because it may be outdated pretty soon too. I do think it would be good …

LoL! Well, the game should be able to run on a non-corrupt Windows ME installation. However, I don't think the game will work on my windows ME system, even if I start with a fresh clean installation. It seems the game has some sort of conflict with something. Another operating system may not be able …

I've updated the drivers now, it still doesn't work, so it may not be the sound after all. I also installed the drivers from my chaintech motherboard again (I finally know what's in there). It was almost impossible to run the install files of the drivers. The only way I could install them was using …

I think I know what's causing my problem. My onboard sound device (CM18738/C3DX PCI Audio Device) has no soundblaster support. I already told you the game works fine on my dad's computer, but that computer has a soundblaster sound card in it. I already posted in this thread that I've experienced the …

I've got some news what's boggeling my mind: Woodruff does run without crashes on my dad's computer; it also has a ME operating system. So it's probably an issue with the hardware and drivers. Woodruff was back in 1995 notorious for it's bad compatibility with hardware.

@Collector: Interesting, you're experiencing similiar problems in 98SE too. Maybe it's one of those microsoft security patches, but I don't know. I saw someone complain on another forum that his woodruff game didn't work anymore after installing Windos XP SP 2. *Edit* You know, If I can find a copy …

Yeah your right, it's probably a rare combination. :depressed: I've just tried to run Woodruff with the "Abandon Loader" and I ticked the box: 95 compatibility. It didn't work - it crashed again. Can anyone recommend Bochs btw? I'm considering installing windows 95 on my machine with it, but I …

I'm not sure either if Windows Me is causing the problem or something else. I never heard anyone complain that the woodruff game got stuck. If it's a Windows Me problem it would be likely that more people would experience this problem, I guess. I think I've just found some more info about my problem …

All right, I also changed the maximum virtual memory to 256, but it didn't seem to work; I got the blue screen of death again while trying to play the game. :dead: I have no clue, what's causing the problem. I searched the net for a windows (3.11 or 95) emulator for windows in the hope that could …

Thanks Snover, I will try it out! Dosfreak: There is no Dos version of the game; the game on the Underdogs site has a wrong label. Thanks for your replies everyone! *Edit*: Well, I tried it out, but the game still gets stuck.... :dead: Maybe I should change the maximum amount of virtual memory also …
