How fast? Try HDD Regenerator bootable ISO. It checks the entire disk for bad sectors and also fixes them if possible. Link https://archive.org/details/hdd-regenerator-2011-full

Have you tried cleaning the volume? The TDA7284 which is the record/playback circuit is suspect. The electrolyte caps at the top on the other hand work as a filter, so replacing them with audio grade caps might help. Have you tried without starting the Unisound driver? Or a different joystick? How about your I/O card, does it have a connector for the gamepad?

Is there any rust on the metallic parts? Remove the card and check the pins for connectivity with a multimeter or use a LED and the battery holder.

Hi Try a contact cleaner like W40 on the potentiometer. Spray the cleaner inside the volume and rotate it a few times, then let it dry out.

Problem solved! There's an option in SOUND16.CFG named FDAC_SRC with four possible options: OPL3/ASIO/MIX/SHARE. The default option is OPL3, so changing this to SHARE should fix the problem. Is there anyone who knows what the MIX option does? Can FM-Synth and Midi be used at the same time?

this may not be your problem, but why do you have C:\OPTI930\SNDINIT /b in your config? i have a 82c930 card and i think the dos drivers are different (nt drivers are combined if i remember).
