Re: new laptop hard drive

I don't think SSD vs HDD is a meaningful comparison, as numerous factors come into play. Two different drives within one of these categories can have very different reliability, so it's hard to generalize SSDs and HDDs as a whole. When SSDs first became popular, there was a lot of concern over their …

Re: best version of Office to learn

Honestly, if you don't have a legit license for the most recent version of office, then just use LibreOffice instead. These days the general functionality and interface is pretty close between them both. It's 'good enough' for most things. No, it doesn't have a direcr Access equivalent, but Access …

Re: best version of Office to learn

The hospital that I work at puts out health and safety stuff that looks like it came from a 90s clipart CD. It's stuff like "butt out smoking" with ashtray clipart. I like to imagine that there's some person in her 50s or 60s who has been doing those on a Windows 95 machine for over 30 years now.

Re: best version of Office to learn

I have the expectation of using various versions! Is that so hard to grasp? Your question was which Office version is the best to learn and if starting with an older version is a good way to prepare for later versions. I can grasp the idea of someone wanting to use multiple versions, but that …

Re: best version of Office to learn

I would recommend learning the newest version unless you know that you will be working with an older one a lot in the future. Microsoft has a bad habit of changing stuff that isn't broken, so you might learn something the old way, but then having to relearn it for the new way. The newest version …

Re: Newly made ISA CGA cards with real 6845s?!

So I got the card in my hands, and notwithstanding my capture setup barfing a bit, the card does seem to deliver on very high if not 100% IBM CGA compatibility. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atWSy1o8CkE Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm not really interested in the Book8088 because I don't …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I started playing Sierra's Conquest of Camelot and, which is rare for me, played it nearly all the way through to what I assume is the final section. However, turns out that in classic adventure game manner I overlooked a room in the starting location (castle Camelot) where you were supposed to …
