I replaced command.com with the version from DR-DOS 7.03. Still no luck.

I gave this a shot yesterday. A fresh install of the OS gave me 619 KiB of free conventional memory, which isn't bad at all. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the DR-DOS task switcher working properly – while it did start, the Command Interpreter would not load in any of the tasks I created.

Should I aim for a Geforce 2 MX 400 that has 128-bit memory? Or would 64 bit be fine? I saw an old post from someone saying something about 'the best ones have 4.5 or 5ns memory' or something. This isn't the first time the AI hype train has come for vintage computing. That said, I'm not too surprised that an LLM can run on an older PC. Most computer science concepts were worked out in the 1960s; from there, it was a matter of waiting for hardware to catch up.

I think getting more than 1/3 the score of a Geforce 2 Ultra with a TNT2 M64 on a similar CPU is very respectable. The GF2 Ultra is easily 5-6 times as fast as a TNT2 M64.
