Re: PowerVR Fun Thread

I have an idea. Broken tiles are simply unlit ones. Don't remember how is lightmapping realized in Q1/Q2 engines, but this is a "multi-texturing" issue. Not sure how can (for example) be broken part of the chip core (ALU, tile-processor etc.), so maybe after all this is VRAM issue. Very fun glitch …

Re: PowerVR Fun Thread

Wow I've never seen this. Can you play at a lower res. and tell if it changes something ? Generally speaking, stay away from S3 cards for PowerVR gaming, it's among the slowest. Verite is fine. Squares scale with different resolutions, so they definitely have the same size in pixels and yeah, these …

Re: PowerVR Fun Thread

Sorry if this is in the video but I don't have a Vimeo account. On the other topic I asked you what's your primary card. By contrast with 3DFX accelerators, the primary card matters here. Both for compatibility and speed. Which drivers ? Both your primary card and the M3D. Sorry, didn't find a …

Re: PowerVR Fun Thread

Does anybody see this kind of glitch or maybe someone can explain what is going on in the video? At first look, I would say that I see those legendary PVR tiles and my m3d has a hardware glitch. But - it happens only in miniGL games (Quake-based engines) and unfortunately in Unreal (as I know it has …

Re: Matrox M3D (PCX2) questions

I was checking the temperature with a pyrometer. Numbers are from running Quake 2 menu demo. In regards to m3d, it has 50-52C at idle conditions and the temperature raises to 60-62 after 10 mins of the running demo. About Vortex 2. It was obvious IRQ issue. I've set proper IRQs and it finally works …

Re: Matrox M3D (PCX2) questions

I've checked the temperature under load conditions (Quake 2 demo) - Matrox m3d - 61-62C (max) - Rendition Verite 2200 - 52C (max) So, PCX2 isn't hot as I expected (~60C is ok for silicon), but I'm going to install a heatsink. Grandma is too old for this sh~~ 😀

Re: Matrox M3D (PCX2) questions

NB for future wanderers in this topic. I've checked the temperature on my Rendition Verite 2200 by "finger-test" :). It also doesn't have a heatsink and it's also very hot (maybe slightly "colder" than M3D). So, very hot chips on the 1st generation of 3D accelerators - it's a norm. PS: Will check …

Re: Matrox M3D (PCX2) questions

Not P4, you're right. But it definitely hotter than the regular prehistoric 3d accelerator without a heatsink. BTW, where were my eyes? There are at least two topics about PCX's temperature. I want to drill holes into my PowerVR PCX2 to mount a heatsink. Does anyone have access to an x-ray machine? …

Matrox M3D (PCX2) questions

Hello everyone. I bought this beast and have questions for other PCX2 owners. How hot are your cards? I mean temperature, of course :) My example is extremely hot, so I can't keep my finger on its chip. I suppose it's warming up to ~60-70C. Actually, I thought that seller sold me a burnt piece of …
