Re: 286 USIT Athena PC

Bad news... I expected this relatively modernboard to support EMS 4.0. It does support EMS, well at least the WDC FE3021-LR supports it: http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/components/westernDigital/_dataBooks/1991_SystemLogic_Imaging_Storage/04_FE3021.pdf LIM standard EMS expanded memory hardware ( …

Re: 286 USIT Athena PC

I think, nice idea would be to insert 4Mb (4x1Mb) RAM, engage EMS and DesQView, running simultaneously dBase and ChiWriter, for example. I do have 4MB RAM in it, I haven’t got EMS to work, except for with EMM286, if you do find out to get it natively to work , please let me know! Does your PC have …

FIC 4386-VIO a.k.a. Vobis HighScreen 486 Universal board and soldering a am386dx-40 on it \o/

So I've aquared an nice hybrid motherboard, it's a FIC 4386-VIO a.k.a. Vobis HighScreen 486 Universal board, my plan is adding an Am386dx-40, why might you ask? First of all because I probably can, so why not? Second; it's just cool to do this and to have such a system. Third; it would save me space …

Re: Tandon 286/n

Looking at the ad in the Dutch “Limburgs Dagblad”, it is odd that the Tandon 286/n was more expensive than a Laser 386 and NLG 1000 (about $ 500) more expensive than the Tandon PCA 12 SL… In the ad from March 31st, 1992, the price is reduced to NLG 1999,- Filename 0A0545FE-F2A8-419B-BB7A- …

Re: Tandon 286/n

Nice 12MHz AMD FPU. The 12MHz part was pretty uncommon. Most of them were 10s. Yeah, I’m hoping it will keep functioning with my 16MHz AMD or 25MHZ Harris CPU. Otherwise I’ll be looking for a 287XL and hoping that it will work with that one. But ‘m going to get some heatsinks for the FPU and …

Re: Tandon 286/n

Almost hard to believe this existed at the same time as the enormous XT PC's with the same (or probably worse) specs. Well it is a bit newer, it was offered as a budget PC for businesses, I own a hardcopy and pdf of infoworld magazine where it was advertised in, it’s from August 27th, 1990 on pages …

Tandon 286/n

I'm the proud owner of a Tandon 286/n since last year and since I have been "lurking" here at Vogons for years, but never posted anything, I thought it was time to do so. Specs: Motherboard WD286-LPM ( ATHENA SMT-216LP ) Manufactured by Western Digital Corporation (This motherboard was probably …

Re: 286 USIT Athena PC

Maybe a bit talking to myself here, but if anyone is searching or interested: MM.ZIP Not that I get any expended memory on my Tandon 286/n (probably it needs to be set in the bios, but there isn't an option for it), but maybe it is useful for someone with the same board, it supports LIM 4.0. …

Re: 286 USIT Athena PC

I came across this post and while I have been “lurking” around here at vogons; this is my very first post. I got a Tandon 286/n (not mine eBay listing by the way) and it has the same mainboard as your USIT Athena PC! It’s a: U.S. INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGIES, INC. ATHENA SMT-216LP Or a: Western Digital …
