I would say irq 7. Because older games look only for that, and newer games often have a config that let's you choose, or they use the BLASTER environment variable.

Sim City is a great game to learn with and have fun. Use whatever version will run well on the hardware they have. Also Theme Hospital is a classic.

I see on ebay UK that someone is currently trying to sell a Voodoo 2 for £225. Worse it's listed as for parts or not working (so no return if not working), and they have clearly shown that it has component parts knocked off or distorted. Who would pay this much money for such a thing? It's nuts. …

Need For Speed II SE was one that benefited from a 12 vs 8 MiB Voodoo 2. On a 12 MiB, there was enough texture memory to also display the dash board when using inside camera, the 8 MiB didn't. I think the V330 will be a good match for those later games where the Voodoo 1 will run out of steam. I think this should be a great system for 1997 games and earlier.

These are 8Mb cards ...not sure I would pay 199 quid for the 8Mb models even if it was a pair of them. I do question that memory however as the ones from STB had 12Mb on one side so its possible the seller has them miss identified here, if thats the actual case then its still too damn expensive but …

Worst for user-friendliness is Linux. Without a doubt. For Windows, the only ones I really hate are 8 and 11. Both made stupid decisions in their UI design. The other Windows OSes are good as long as you use good drivers, use appropriate software/hardware and don't install too much crap.

Its a personal thing. I think you can get away with very few but there will be some software that won't run. I have only two that are currently built. Those are my "ultimate" Win98 and WinXP PCs. Nooooo, please don't run 1280x1024 on your CRTs. If I had a magic wand, I'd make all CRT monitors refuse to run that resolution. It's the wrong aspect ratio (5:4)... and on top of that, this is usually the max resolution most 17" CRTs will do, often disallowing anything but 60 Hz for the refresh …
