That's mixed news, good that you were able to verify that the mx400 works, bad that the 4200 is no good. Have used LCDs with old systems they seem ok under windows but not great under msdos. What beep code? One long, three short?

Good choice for replacement. GeForce 4 ti4200 is one of my favorites though recently I picked up a 128bit GeForce 4 mx440 that really surprised me considering I don't remember having any joy with them when they came out! Hopefully that solves your issues!

I don't know where you are located and ease of access to computer parts. It may be time to cut your losses on the card unless you can find obvious damage as these are generally common, low cost cards.

Have you examined the card For bulging/leaking capacitors as it seems that you have had at least two times where the card posted seems possibly related to failing components. Did the rage ii work correctly? Is the addin card set to primary display adapter in bios? If you boot into the operating system with the agp card installed but with the onboard adapter as primary can you see the card In the device manager?. Lots of things to try

No I checked that when I first noticed the thing was resetting to default. I just ordered cr2032 batteries so I can make sure the first replacements weren't from a bad lot cause it worked for a little while and then started default settings thing.
