Re: Roland SC-88 versus SC-88 Pro?

For GM gaming, a 55 or 88 will be the way to go (probably 55). For further applications the 88Pro and 8820/50 are far more advanced modules and are definitely better. The default drumkit on the 88Pro is kind of lame, so I would certainly advise against picking it for GM gaming just based on that. It …

Re: Munt Reloaded - Development

gdjacobs: 32 bit floats have their purpose. It's probably what I'd use if I wanted to create an MT-32 sample based remix track. However, I'm not too excited about it from a listening point of view. Just curious about this statement. What would be undesirable about a higher quality render from a …

Re: Last game made for mt 32

Pretty likely it would have been in 1992. PQ1VGA and Laura Bow 2 were 2 of the last Sierra games to have MT-32 composed scores (probably the last two). King's Quest 6 kinda sorta had some tracks optimized for the MT-32 but it is a bit nebulous as to how much. The score was composed for General MIDI. …

Re: Roland SC-D70

The SC-D70 is an upgrade over the SC-88Pro. It basically gives the same samples but with digital output, which upgrades the quality a bit. I have had one for about 9 years now. In all the recordings I used the 8850 for, I used actually a D70 (except one or two patches which sound different like the …

Re: Roland CM-500 Demos

Hello, I recently stumbled into this forum while I was looking to learn how to use DOSBox. I was looking to make a couple of good demo videos of my Roland CM-500 module in action with the idea of listing it for sale. But now I'm hooked on DOSBox. Now I can't stop playing Commander Keen 4. Anyway, …

Re: Space Quest I VGA Hacking

in DOS
Pretty dang awesome NRS and co. Really appreciate it, SQ1VGA was definitely half-assed (although that adds a certain charm to it in some ways). It feels like the Deltaur part of the game was drastically unfinished, hardly any descriptors, puzzles or music in it at all! Only skimmed (SQ1 pun there) …

Re: Audio buffer in MUNT

Thanks sergm, I will try it. With the WDM-KS I was almost synced to my external synth, there was a fraction of a second delay only. Enough for the drums to sound out of sync slightly, but only only just. I appreciate your time and will try those solutions. I believe my main synth has a 48 KHz …

Re: Audio buffer in MUNT

Still a bit of lag with this setup. Much lower than the original post but still enough to render non functional. Sergm, any update to the situation for ASIO support? No idea how to recompile or use a binary DLL, or I would do that 😀

Request for floating point arithmetic version

Hey sergm and others, I would have PM'd you this but you have that feature disabled for some reason. Basically, I have heard some samples a friend recorded where he tweaked the source code for a project of his and enabled floating point instead of integer, which stopped the MT-32's quantization …

Re: Audio buffer in MUNT

Looks like using the WDM-KS driver works. I just didn't realise it was an option because at the default settings of 0, 0 and 0 it will fail, you have to set it to 10/40/15 or a usual combination. KS = Kernel Streaming, it works outside of normal memory and so has no lag pretty much.

Re: Audio buffer in MUNT

Sorry to revive an old thread but I ran into the same issue with a new setup. Basically, if I use an external MT-32 and external synth together, it syncs up fine, but if I try and use MUNT with my external synth, and mix them together, there is noticeable lag in playback. Now using Win 7 Pro, but …

Re: Adlib stereo in DOSBox?

in DOS
There has been cases of Apogee fans using two OPL3 chips to get stereo sound: http://publiccommanderkeenforum.yuku.com/topic/1686/Prosject-OPL3X2 To be more precise about my original post, I'm talking about the techniques used in AdPlug, which were used in DSx86, basically DOSBox for Nintendo DS. I …
