Re: Sierra/Dynamix sound driver hacking

in DOS
Awesome! Extracted Willy tonight. NRS had sent me the files some time ago, but it's neat to be able to do it myself :) Question: Willy CD is in a completely different format; it has a resource.001 and resource.map; but none of the Sierra decoding programs will work, i.e. SCI Studio, SCI Viewer, …

Question: why did Sierra keep 'Survivor' for 'Vadis' replacement (Dragon King boss)? Yeah, it's because in the localization Sierra dropped all the 'Romancia' tracks other than Castle Romancia, so that's why you have Bloody River playing again, Evil Shaman playing again, Survivor playing again. …

Tikalat, can you make a tool that extracts images or anything else from Dynamix games? SCi Viewer and Studio and others don't work for Dynamix games. Do you still need the Sorc info? You seem to have beaten me to it.. I guess you figured out by now that Survivor plays when Beautiful Day should, and …

Tika, Track 54 is unused. Don't have an answer for it, it sounds familiar, but it doesn't match any of the 58 Japanese music pieces in any real way. I don't think it plays in game, but if I hear it, I'll let you know. SS099 is played in-game, it's a fanfare which is played every time you slay a …

Some info is here, on the Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorcerian Of course this doesn't tell you resource numbers. I will get back to you. I know this is wrong because the game is Japanese and Sierra's has the music correct for most tracks but from one point in the game onwards, all the music …

Other than possible buggy PQ1 installer, on Sorcerian, how does the game play sound effects? Is it always PC Speaker? Also, is it possible to fix the problem (also in Sorc) where the music resources are misaligned by 1 in the latter half of the game (from a certain point where a music resource is …

Whew! Dynamix! 😁 Thanks NRS, you're on fire this week. Now.. what else can we get you to do.. 😉 Hey, doesn't PQ1VGA have some broken sound driver in a weird install program?

Don't tell me you've never heard of this blockbuster game, which has the added benefit of being completely silent with the "General MIDI" selection Doesn't one of the Dynamix TIM games have the same problem? Tim 1 or EM maybe? Thanks for all the patches, NRS. As usual, you've been a real pantload. …

NRS, not going to go all out crazy, but there just may be an embarrassing featurette in your honour as part of my site's 10th anniversary. Sorry, but you deserve it too much.. 😜

Attached MUNT log. Looks like plain GM-style? Yeah, the CS in "CS_HARP" stands for Chris Stevens, who made a MT-32 patch bank to emulate the GM sounds. It's pretty horrible though (listen to Krondor or SQ5 on a MT-32 and you'll see why!), I don't know why they didn't just use the Sierra one.. …

Re: Sierra/Dynamix sound driver hacking

On Krondor, the game's music is designed to be heard on a SC-55, I don't think the MT-32 support is anything special, in fact, I think the MT-32 just plays the GM files with a GM SysEx bank, ala SQ5. I think the MIDI SFX sound fine on a SC-55, but that's just me ;) Hey, so, PCM sound effects won't …

Re: Sierra/Dynamix sound driver hacking

For my own ears, I prefer some of the other digital sounds over the MT-32 sounds, if for nothing else than the seeming lack of reverb. But it is, of course, subjective. This could also be that sometimes with MT-32 SFX, the reverb for the current song will intervene or conflict with the reverb (or …

Re: Sierra's Sorcerian- bugs

Sierra's Sorcerian- bugs

I've Googled, searched this forum, but can't seem to find anything like what I'm experiencing. I'm using DOSBOX latest build (although I've tried 0.62 and 0.72 also), 0.74, with my usual settings and then scaled back "no frills" settings, nothing helps. The problems- well, Sorcerian loads fine. But …

Re: Abandonware and Dosbox

Copyright owners may not loose out, but what about the people that bought a surplus of old games, and now sells them on eBay? They will (and do) loose out due to "abandonware" sites. And so do I, if I want to swap/sell one of the games I have bought. Is that fair? MiniMax, With respect, I disagree. …

Re: Abandonware and Dosbox

I'm not trying to make anyone out as a 'bear'. I call the things the way I see them, based on my views and the facts. Almost everyone in this thread has posted (in my view) articulately and accurately, and I don't think most views as expressed have been inconsistent with one another. That's why I …
