Re: .000 to .xxx files

in Milliways
This may be harder than you think. While it is possible that the game developers used a common video file format (like FLI/FLC or DL) it is more likely that they modified the format in some possibly small way (thus making the file unplayable in other players). I can say that the file names don't …

Re: The New Wiki

Seriously. I had wanted to do this much work on the old wiki but kept running up against unusual syntax. Now I'm just hoping the #IF command can start working (makes really dynamic templates possible) and the thumbnail generation can be fixed.

Re: The New Wiki

Just wanted to point out my latest page http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Scaler It was fun making it (though it took a while), and its rather buried in the Wiki. I also noticed that other people are starting to add games. Cool! Maybe this Wiki Game/App list is starting to have some legs.

Re: The New Wiki

I think the uncertainty over screen shots might be a carry over to other emulation communities. With Consoles the capacity to capture a screen image is only possible because a ROM image has been loaded which Nintendo has long held is an illegal use of even purchased games. But in DOSBox the platform …

Re: The New Wiki

well the game currently on the list is a review with one line that it is supported. Basicly a mobygames entry. So totally unrelated to dosbox When I first created a Games page, I picked Test Drive because it was refrenced in the http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Basic_Setup_and_Installation_of_DosBox …

Re: The New Wiki

I didn't know about PhysFS, but I think your talking about this http://icculus.org/physfs/ So in effect we would make a ROM format for DOS games? Which would bring everything they need to execute? Personally I like more of the recreated environment of DOSBox (but then I'm the guy who spends too much …

Re: The New Wiki

One thought I had about the game pages (thanks for the complement, it was fun learning how to use templates) was that it could be a great place to record FAQs (like getting hard to run games to work, a good place to host the Sierra Kings Quest 5/6 thread) or possibly secretes (like the Hero's Quest …

Re: The New Wiki

in DOSBox General
I just added the history file to the Wiki and created a way to link to DOSBox versions. So all of the releases (and thier downloads are linked at http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Releases The current release is a redirect found at http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Releases:Current Which right now is defined as …

Just made a simple template

in DOSBox General
checkout http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/GAMES:TestDrive . I took the image from MobyGames (so we may want to replace it, I don't want to offend them, I think there web page is great) There appears to be an issue with generating thumbnails (which is keeping the image inclusion from working the way it …

Re: The New Wiki

Transcluding can work in the new Wiki. If you are Transcluding a template just type {{Templatename}}, if your transcluding a whole article then type {{:ArticleName}} (note the semicolon in front). I just learned about this, so I don't know how we can use it, but I thought you would like to know. - …

The New Wiki

in DOSBox General
Hi everyone, I'm Sryx (the guy who has been writing some of the new Wiki pages). I have been a long time DOSBox user but only a recent contributer (at least in the Wiki, I'm more of a Java programmer so helping with the code is still a ways off). Anyways I've been looking around for information …

Re: Compression/Conversion Thread

in DOSBox General
Just a quick note.. The Windows Media Encoder does a great job compressing the captured video in at least a semi sharable file. You can find the software at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx I'm still experimenting with MPEG (I still get file sizes larger …

Compression/Conversion Thread

First off I have to say that DOSBox 0.65 is AMAZING. Great Job! I'm having a lot of fun with the video capture and after playing around with VirtualDub and TMPGEnc I can see why you settled on the format that you did. Which is why I was wondering what other peoples' thoughts were on CODEC, Software, …

Re: Kaillera and Dos Box....

in DOSBox General
I think this is a great idea, but it seems like many of you are over thinking this. Kaillera can be used to solve two distinct issues. On one hand, there is an option to make a "virtual" game pad, keyboard and mouse (and timer I guess) to enable recreating the "single computer->multiple players" …

Re: King Quest 8

in DOSBox General
I am a HUGE fan of the King’s Quest series (one of the key reasons why I love DOSBox sooo much, VR Studio is the other) and it seems universally accepted that KQ8 was a letdown, from lack of imagination, to poor execution. With all of the talent available in this message board are there (or have …
