I wasn't expecting OpenGL to be much faster, either. But those are the results I see. Maybe something to do with VSYNC? I have it set to autoselect in D3D, but default to OFF in OGL.

Nevermind on the performance issues. Switching rendering modes to OpenGL and bumping CPU cycles up to 14000 or so (switch of rendering makes this higher number possible) most slow performance issues are gone. But, the other bugs remain.

A module addon? I'm not sure what you're talking about. If you mean the music, somebody did extract all the tracks into their respective mod files.

You downloaded the copy at http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~diehlr/starcon2.zip ?? It's the version I am using, and I didn't have the Sa-Matra bug (another copy I downloaded on IRC had that problem). Strange.. unzip it in a fresh directory, doublecheck you're running the right executable. Let me know …

"drifts around a bit" ... i'm changing that to "drifts around a lot!" vlad- do you know any solution to smoothing out the pitch? I assume it's Windows getting funky with the interrupts that are used to generate the parallel port audio, but maybe it's something to do with VDMS, I don't know.. 😀

Well, after fanagling around some with the config, I finally got Star Control 2 working with sound under VDMS. Not really sure what I did to solve the illegal instruction problem. OK, I just tried it with Stunts and it worked, although -60 was INSANELY fast. So I tried -10 and it seems very fast, but not quite insane. So, since that worked I tried -10 on Star Control 2 and that worked also (didn't crash anyway, it got to the copy protection screen) but not under VDMS. I …

I'm not using a crack, I have a copy of the Starmap and just use that when I want to play. I still get an illegal instruction with Speedset.

AFAIK, SC2 doesn't start loading, so I think it is a problem related to Speedset. I don't see any text output before the window reports the error. I'll investigate it a little more tomorrow with some other programs to see how it fares..
