The CT3900 is not PnP, you set the base port via jumpers, the rest is configured via software (DIAGNOSE.EXE). Later models come with real ISA-PnP (e.g CT3980, CT3990). CT3900 cards have a newer mixer chip than CT2670, so they are supposed to be quieter.

There seems to be a lot of variance in BIOS-level VBE support with Virge cards. I have a 486/Virge DX and a K6-3/Virge GX, both of them have no problems with the Pandemic demo.

Yes. The ATI VGA Wonder is probably not 100% register compatible, but that shouldn't matter for most games.

I use Linux on almost everything. Workstations, home computers, laptops, servers, virtual machines, whatever. It became my main OS in 1997 or so, and since then, I have used it on hundreds of devices. Linux is awesome.

In my 486 I sometimes use the speed compensation offered by the GUS gameport. It is neat to have when playing older games (mostly from the 1980s), the issue vanished in the early 1990s when programmers started to time their joystick routines properly.

AFAIR the Tseng cards were legendary because they could hold a candle to the pro cards, but were much cheaper. And for DOS gaming, you didn't need high resolution or colour depth, just pure framebufer speed. A S3 Vision was kinda wasted on gaming.
