The Voodoo5, though, was a flop. It was basically Netburst (power hungry and inneficient), but without its saving graces (modern features/intruction set, better underlying platform than the competition, etc.), and got owned by the competition.

They are SBPro compatible, not SB16. Set the games to use an SBPro and it won't even ask for a high DMA address. I know the ISA YMF chips were also WSS (Windows Sound System) compatible, but I have no idea if the PCI chips are as well.

IMHO for pure DOS that ES1868F + a daughterboard is a great combo. Btw, you might wanna look for a CT3670 Sound Blaster 32 instead of an AWE64. The three-pin connector on retail motherboards was ALWAYS standard - I've got SS7 boards with those. I suggest you to simply match the pinout, cut the connector of both fans and join the correct wires, insulating them with black isolating tape afterwards.

You could maybe get 1mm thick copper sheet and use some thermal glue to attach them to the chips? With the right tools you could maybe fold it above the module itself to furhter increae the contact area.

Such thing doesn't exist. Any LCD monitor WILL loose sharpness when displaying images outside their native resolutions. And 4:3 monitors are usually old, and much worse than current ones. The next best thing would be a nice IPS panel that doesn't have a ver noticeable input lag.

If you want to boot from it it has to be of the fixed disk variety, these are much less common and generally a lot more expensive. Some CF cards can be changed to fixed disk through utilities but don't expect to buy any old CF card and expect it to work. I was able to adapt an old Sandisk 2GB card …
