Re: Gravis Ultrasound trouble.

Raptor works fine for me. You don't need to install anything under Dosbox fo Gravis Ultrasound, you only need to specify a correct path to ULTRASND directory in dosbox's config file (like ultradir=C:\ULTRASND) The only problem is this directory should be available under dosbox, so if you don't mount …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Never happened to me. :) I like ChaosFish's icon, I use it as icon for shortcuts to games run trough DosBox. For Dosbox.exe I prefer red D: icon and for DosBox's windows: red D: for main window and blue D: for console. ;) Evolution indeed, one could make image with all the icons starting from …

Re: DOSBox Icon

PS. Oh, one last thing; when I'm alt-tabbing through windows and DOSbox is open, I realise there are 2 separate DOSbox windows; Yeah, I noticed that myself. It was even worse before the inclusion of the icon because I would confuse DosBox with the command prompt! Also, If you ALT-TAB then the …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Yes 6.12 looks good. Finally you resolved that contrast issue without making colors look ugly. Now, I have improved my scaling algorithms, here are the icons in 48x48 and 32x32 in following order: a) original, scaled from256x256 using simple halftoning algorithm, scaled from 256x256 using Polynomial …

Re: DOSBox Icon

I've implemented some more interpolation algorithms for one of my program, and while testing I made some dosbox icons using pictures from this thread, that I liked most. Maybe you'll like these icons too. If I decide which I like most then maybe I'll make a custom DOSBox build with my favorite icon. …

Re: Problem with translation on polish

Ok, look what I have dig out from the Internet! Inside the zip in the link below, there are a bunch of font utils for DOS. You are interested in one called "polskie.exe". It's the only thing you need, you can forgot all that freedos stuff. If you run it without parameters it will by default set and …

Re: Problem with translation on polish

The mode con cp sel=852 should do the same that the program from MegaBlast does, obviously it doesn't for some reason. But which mode? I have old mode.com from some old DOS which under DOBox returns "Incorrect DOS version." and the one from Windows XP cries: "This program cannot be run in DOS mode …

Re: Problem with translation on polish

By the way it should be easy to add custom codepages support for DOSBox. It would be enough that it would allow to load and use custom .FNT file (4kb font 16x8) There are other text modes than 80x25 but this was most often used, so I quess support only for this text mode would be enough. Currently …

Re: Problem with translation on polish

Well, the files I provided changes only character matrix, they doesn't change keyboard layout, so you still need to use some keyboard hooking program (like keyb). You need to run only one file, either polega.exe (this changes to mazovia standard) or polega_w (this changes to 852, but only polish …

Re: Problem with translation on polish

I translate DOSBox on polish and when i checked how it's look like I saw bushes instead polish letters. How could I fix it? I try diffrent coding and didn't work. You would need to change codepage to whatever one you use. Ages ago I wrote some simple program in turbopascal that modifies the matrics …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Actually, if I have a shortcut, then it is a shortcut to launch a game, so it will say name of the game. For Shortcuts to specific games, I change the icon to one for the game. I don't have icons for old games (old games didn't have icons!), so I leave dosbox icon then. It's alright, you'll know …

Re: Monochromatic CGA simulation. Is it possible?

Now, CGA adapters cannot use mono displays and MDA adapters cannot use color displays. However, this assumes you are using IBM hardware. There were clones that supported both MDA and CGA standards and supported both types of monitors. To use a CGA modes on a monochrome monitor would require the …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Megablast: thanks a lot, really "el chino" was the artist that make the cube :) Pass on then my delight to el chino then (spanish chinese?). That cube is a nice artwork. I was so wondering how it would look as an icon I even made one from that jpg. PS. Shed what kind of software do you use? That …

Re: DOSBox Icon

If you build your object based icons smart, you don't have to do that. Also, you can't do pixel work on an SVG icon anyway. The picture I posted had pixel work done at 16x16 size, but the one below doesn't. Further, you probably see the large icon first, and can connect the symbol to the small one, …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Hello ....i made this one http://www.cyberscope-station.com/frikidune/images/DOSBox_cubed.jpg It's a great concept. It's solid, it's a box, it has somethic magical that makes you think of computer games. I think It lacks a bit of DOS flavour I mean this icon has nothing except DOS word that would …

Re: DOSBox Icon

I was also taken back that you chose a pixel based icon. With an SVG based icon, you could use the same icon across all operating systems, and there would be no problem with a "1024x1024" or a "10,000x10,000" sized icon. Still there would be a need to do a pixel work on low-res icons like 16x16 or …

Re: Early Multiplayer DOS games

in Milliways
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Scorched Earth is indeed a great game (though simple). I like the clone named Tank Wars for its cool weapons and add-ons. I think all scorched earth clones are poor, simplified versions of the original game. And for cool weapons and add-ons there are plenty of …
