I have a Gigabyte GA-686BX board with an SL356 PII 350 processor, marked (c) 1997. I tried all different settings for the multiplier [=every combination of the 4 switches] and none of them made any difference to what it booted up as. It would however boot as a 233MHz, by using the 66MHz bus speed.

Would bad capacitors be a possibility I wonder? I know there was a period when there was a particular problem with capacitors in a lot of boards [sort of Socket 370 and early Socket A times], which isn't relevant here. But older boards may eventually suffer the same problem of decaying caps.

Can banshee and v2 work together? Presumably you will have to play with glide file swapping. On games and dual proc's, I used to have a dual p3/866 system, using win2k. There are win98se drivers for nforce2 chipsets (eg. for Abit AN7, but that's socket A and has no isa slots 😵 ).

Problem was copy protection. I downloaded l2-fix.com and that makes it run ok. Seems to be a crack, but I do have the full boxed original anyway.

Installing an OS is a pain - I installed Win95 through floppies but managed to create a partition and copy the Win NT4 CD to that, across a network. …

I found voodoo cards in a k6/2 or k6/3 box too slow for q3, but a gf2 much better. Haven't networked them. That class of box is fine for multi-player q1, q2, avp, warcraft 2, starcraft, heretic, hexen, heretic2, hexen 2.
