Ha! For me the 'new' video card I got to 'solve' the problem was an ATI 9700pro. Turned out to be a fabulous card that gave me years of good service, but I always missed Glide. In a way that was the beginning of my retro interest since I really always wanted to keep the Voodoo going...

I find it's easy to plug the cable in the wrong way on either the 3.5" or to the motherboard. When I get FDD problems on a new setup I always try reversing one or both of the connections as it's not always crystal clear how they were meant to go in the first place. Also check your BIOS for floppy …

Phew! was worried someone would jump on it haha;) Dual Tuls is a cool idea but I'm sticking to my 'Mono Tul' and just keep my peepers open for one of those Athlon 64/AGP 2x boards if one comes along cheap...

Interesting. The Asus manual indicates X1/x2/x4 AGP modes, full backwards AGP compatiblity ["it will run any AGP card"], but never expressly mentions a 3.3v slot. Yes, the KT333 mobos seem to be the ticket - avoiding the 'wrong' versions of course. I have a KT133 mATX board with ISA slot running a Duron 1100 and goes pretty well and has front USB headers which is nice. I recall reading a post here on Vogons recently that mentioned the last motherboard that could accept a Voodoo 5500. Searched but can't seem to find it again. I think it was Athlon 64 2x based with the required 3.3v AGP 2x slot - or was it a P4? Ring a bell?

My eBay QDI Legend 8mb Rendition arrived and it runs very smooth. I think the image quality in EF2000 V2 is better than the 4mb card, and overall smoothness is better in Indycar Rcaing 2. It's a minimalist looking AGP card but I would recommend it.

It is still a valid question but what I'm really interested in is the Pentium III thing , not the first sloted 500ish Megahertzed ones , but like at least 750 to 1133 more or less. Is there a place for this things? IMHO you can get a nice early Athlon XP or P4, pop in some win98se gaming goodies …
