Try the Voodoo 2 patch for the game. There was a similiar problem that this patch fixes, except it was for the arcade mode.

Under DOSBox they run fine for me, but under VPC they run like crap. I just need to set the cycles to max and core to dynamic.

Really? I tried running Corridor 7 under it and it ran with 1fps (under virtual pc, all versions)

Hi, Which would be the most recommended Virtualization utility for playing games? I would like to run GTA 1 and, if possible, direct3d games that use DX 5 and 6. Is there such a Virtual Machine that meets these?

The drivers might work on windows 2000, but they're not recommended for Geforce 7 and 6 series. The 94.24 are still the most recommended for these cards.

The best thing to try would be ACT 5.0. It might be possible to create a custom fix for the game by messing around with the fix flags.

I see. But anyway, this issue doesn't seem to happen under Vista. He was using driver version 175.16 when he tested it.

You can get the original GTA 1 for free on rockstar's site. A friend of mine's got a 8800GT and he reported that this issue didn't occur on Vista.

I think there's something in the drivers, not directx, because the problem happens only with newer cards and drivers (I think I already got it to run using older drivers on this card).

The windows version still works on my Geforce 7900GT (using older drivers, though), so DirectX 9 isn't to blame.

No problem. Still working on a GTA fix as the free version comes with the Windows version only. I've tried messing with ACT 5.0 options but I still cannot get it to work properly.

Yes, and quite a number of DOS titles support 3dfx (Blood, Carmageddon 1, GTA1 and London, Nascar Racing 2, Screamer 2, Shadow Warrior and Tomb Raider 1 that I remember). Yes, I only noticed he had a 9600GT afterwards. GTA1 supports 3dfx, but only the DOS version.

GTA 1 (not London 1969) was rebuilt to run on modern systems, but still has the same problem. I've been bugging nvidia to fix this, but apparently nothing has been done so far.

I have not seen any advantage on new drivers. They only make my system go slower and crash my favourite games. 94.24 are the last rock solid I have. Newer ones simply won't work right, so I always end up returning to older.

These older drivers won't break any game unless the game actually checks for the drivers version. I had a 6800 and now a 7900GT. Both wouldn't just work properly with any driver newer than 94.24.

Go back to the 94.24 drivers or older and the problem is gone.
