I don't see the point of the l2 cache option really, I think setting up deferred cache for a drive is better. I also bought 32GB of ram for caching purposes, currently 16 for cache, 16 for system. The low cost of memory makes the drive as cache solution on the superfluous side of things.

Not for most 8086, 286, 386, early 486 era games, the primary benefactors of the "whatever reason" of setting at a speed to run properly. The "i have nice numbers" are noted for what they are, an average, like AMD's old PR rating. It's useful regardless that you dislike it.

Long ago gone over, FPU performance doesn't match up with integer in DOSBox, runs way faster, same goes for memory bandwidth. Integer is what matters for the majority of DOS games, it's the overriding "tiny fraction."

Performance is done when FPS matches refresh rate. Check out vidspeed that measures bandwidth, which also includes results for several cards. 20.5MB/s is needed for 8 bit SVGA 640x480@70hz, 4.27MB/s for mode 13h.

I remember for quite awhile Disney sound sources were listed on ebay for $10-25, this was before the switch in business model, which added the prevalent $200 DSS etc. type listings. Maybe it's what the market will bear but I doubt it, it's more like them trying to set a new price paradigm.

Wouldn't hooking Int 13 work? I would guess stuffing the DOSBox handler inside a DOS TSR that hooks Int 13 would be what's needed.
