Re: "hidden gems" games 1999 to 2007

in Milliways
1NSANE's the relatively hidden gem of the Codemasters racing games and the physics ages better than the graphics/gameplay :P kind of got lost in the Opflash/Blade/ColinMcrae shuffle. Also if you're a sucker for fantasy stuff that's not a big grand RPG / MMO / HP / LOTR, there's Darkened Skye and …

Well yeah, you're not going to get *any* 3d acceleration in Win9x on Virtualbox no matter what. It's not supported. You could probably try an XP guest in Virtualbox though, where there's still some 3D support left remaining for the soon-deprecated driver.

I haven't noticed any cursor changing on my end, which is odd because i've had other sites change the cursor (like exotica) so I don't think it's my browser and I do use Win95 stock theme cursors anyway

Re: S3D GLQuake - any real value in it?

There's a certain aesthetic appeal of the early Matrox stippled alpha though since they were the only one doing it. SEGA Model 1/2 fans would love the thing all the way up to G100A, and also Matrox has an obvious performance/image quality advantage... ViRGE's alpha textures cannot modulate …

Likes on a forum isn't anything like likes on a social media service though. It's more of a soft compliment that'd keep a thread tidy of thankYou.postCount++'s, and most forum software hides the likes from guests so there's some confidentiality.

that's cool and concerning at the same time. don't trust cousins and always backup, even if it's '93 central (no) point software backup!!! i should mention that "macaw" is a streamer who regularly streams computer games and has a knack for the bad ones, and has been focusing on DOS games recently, …

well........there's a very good reason why it doesn't exist Who'd want to constantly moderate a potential bandwidth hog of a thread with no substance for discourse?

Re: Realtek ALC888 driver

ALC888's an "HD Audio" chip so it's far beyond AC'97 help. At that point you might as well jam in a decent PCI video card and a crappy PCI sound card, or re-assess your perspective of hardware for making a Win9x system. Win9x support in new hardware was well dead by 2008....

You wanna talk about memories... TEH GRAY! :D TEH GRAY, *AND* the use of the old 04B bitmap fonts in the art and 1px borders and a small fixed optimized size so the graphics don't break. It's a few .:'s, shoutboxes and scanline patterns away from peak 2002 web design. The only design residue of …

Re: Dosbox none vs Normal 2x on a CRT

If you don't want scale2x all the time, you'll want to try linewise vga emulation and vgaonly which will do the double-scanned mode more faithfully (i.e. games that switch palettes after specific scanlines, scrolling parts). This is not the default as it's slower and is more meant for edge-cases …
