The S3 Trio64 is essentially a 3dless Virge more or less, so you'll not miss out much if you take out the Virge and roll with Trio64+V2.

i see that terrible fourth episode seems fresh in your mind. 😀 Duke3D's had thrice the development time as Quake though so it's got an advantage there... but also 1996 didn't have the best cpu cache around and 8MB system targets still were considered

My command did include adpcm_ms which would bring the audio down to 4-bit, the lowest one could do before the age of lossy psychoacoustic audio codecs.
