That sounds good. Thanks for testing so far. Btw, if Nero DriveSpeed is detecting available speeds first, that suggests that it uses a completely different approach to throttle the CD drive compared to my tool. I don't know how they do it. :-) Maybe they are using vendor-specific functionality...

Sorry for the late response. But here goes... /ide:1 /mode:1 means that CDBQ will be searching the primary master IDE port for CD-ROM. Is your CD-ROM really connected to that IDE port? Disabling port 388h via CTCM is possible, but only if you deactivate the whole SB16 core as well (doesn't make much sense). @gerwin: The design is strange, but I doubt that a daughterboard would fit. IIRC the pins for RAM expansion have smaller gaps between them/are socketed tighter together. I don't know the official term for that manufacturing method, though. :)

@gerwin: You have probably mistaken the RAM expansion connector of the AWE64 for the Wavetable upgrade connector. AFAIK, no AWE64 cards have a wavetable connector. There was a PCI revision of the AWE64, called AWE64D which was only used in OEM PCs to my knowledge, however. Regards, locutus

Every slowdown program I tried (bremze, moslo, ...) doesn't work as smoothly as expected. I think they won't come close to a real 486.

Privateer 2 and joysticks just don't work well together. The joystick handling is very buggy and strange, which is widely discussed on the internet. Just give it a search.

I think, the improved version and the standard version don't really sound that different from each other. Besides compared to a Yamaha DB50XG or Roland SC-55, Creative stuff just sounds like a joke. locutus
