Re: Roland LAPC-I

I read on another thread something about the card needing a "5v rail" on the PSU, I didn't really understand what that meant, any help? It wasn't this thread ?: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=30944 Should be some explanations here (about the -5v): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atx Pin 20 on …

Re: Partitioning and formatting - disk issues

You only need logical and extended partitions if you want more than 4 partitions on a device. Use Win98SE bootdisk to boot from in the machine you're using the hdd in. fdisk /mbr to wipe the boot record fdisk - delete all existing partitions Reboot with Win98 boot floppy again fdisk partition the …

Re: Partitioning and formatting - disk issues

in DOS
I think you are totally over-engineering the task :) Probably... but when I started out I wasn't expecting such hard resistance from DOS... :happyhappy: And there should (in theory?) be no reason this very simple(!!) desire for a small C-partion is too much to ask, right ? (I mean, how did they …

Re: Partitioning and formatting - disk issues

Again, why not create 2x2GB partitions? 2 GB is the max size a FAT16 partition can have and I never had issues with several partitions as long as they are 2GB. I want to (try to) minimize wasted space(cluster size doubles at 1024mb). AND be able to just kill/re-image C-disk if any strange problems …

Re: Partitioning and formatting - disk issues

In my opinion, the patched versions of fdisk from DOS 7.1 and that of PTS DOS and Freedos all do a much more reliable job -even if one still uses DOS 6.22- than fdisk shipped with DOS 6.22. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/129027-big-hdd-48-bit-lba-thread-index/ No doubt, but I believe the poster …

Partitioning and formatting - disk issues

in DOS
Ok, so here I thought this should be a walk in the park, but no such luck. Trying to partition and eventually format some small hard drives for FAT16/DOS use. When using PartitionMagic and/or DiskManager in WinXP, everything looks peachy, same goes for Fdisk via Win98 dos prompt. But when …

Re: Dos easy installation CD

in DOS
If I remember this correctly, I just used Powerquest PartitionMagic in XP. (2 partitions, 1 set active, this was a few years ago..) And then copied the files... I must admit I've never really used DOS commands much for these types of things, though having some vague memories about fiddling with …

Re: Dos easy installation CD

in DOS
Oh, floppy boot sector.... :sweatdrop: Well, I did a post mortem "sys a:" on the offending disk, with old files and all, and no visible changes, but NOW it boots just fine! As for the disk-2-disk copy, all I did was: - prepare disk, as in partition and format, setting active partition etc - copy all …

Re: Dos easy installation CD

I've been wrestling with getting a microdrive to boot now for hours.... :dead: And finally gave up the idea of just copying a full install from another hdd to the preformatted microdrive... sigh... whatever I did I could NOT for the life of me get the drive to actually boot off the copied install. ( …

Re: Need some help flashing a Abit BH6 1.01

I assume you have the bin-only version of the SS-file(s) ? Never encountered a size mismatch(have you changed the original chip??), so I'm probably not much help, but... What commands are you writing when executing the awdflash ? http://i47.tinypic.com/zjh354.jpg PS: worst case, getting a new chip …
