Re: Fastest CPU for DOSBox

I agree. A newer build would be good. Of course the most interesting part is the dynamic core. What I know, my old Core2 Duo (Conroe 4M, overclocked @ 3.1GHz, with DDR2-800 and a Radeon 6670) can do like 92fps with quake timedemo1 in 320x200, run in a 2013/04 Ykhwong build. But I don't know anything …

Re: Fastest CPU for DOSBox

Yet it seems either VMs weren't in focus when they made the Bulldozer design, or there's something in DosBox in particular, but this doesn't only make BD ugly, it's a complete disaster: http://pctuning.tyden.cz/hardware/procesory-pameti/27079-intel-core-i7-4770k-ctyrjadrovy-haswell-do-desktopu?start …

Re: Fastest CPU for DOSBox

I have a somewhat different question: has anyone studied how new architectures work with DosBox? I remember that in the old days P4s were miserably weak under DosBox compared to the AMD lineup. Later the Core CPUs became good at DosBox, and lately it seems that AMD Bulldozer and its successors are a …

Re: Openglhq and Direct3d in Dosbox

Overlay -> 320*200 letterbox with nVidia 8600GT. Looks extremely dumb in the middle of a 1920*1200 screen :happyhappy: No, I haven't tried the 'vanilla' 0.72, not yet. I was interested in the new builds much more. In the past CVS builds always were *much* ahead of the ?factory? version both in …

Re: Openglhq and Direct3d in Dosbox

This is what it looks like with the same settings on this PC (at my workplace - an intel 915G or something similar...): http://w3.szivarvanynet.hu/alvaro84/hwsw/corejpg.jpg Well, not exactly the same settings, fullresolution was 1600x1200 here (so it should be fullscreen), and it made huge …

Re: Openglhq and Direct3d in Dosbox

Not games are VESA HC/TC, but many demos I like to watch. On Gulikoza's builds: I am one of those who experienced stability problems with Ykhwong's most recent builds switching to fullscreen and back. Pity that Gulikoza builds seem to be ~10% slower. I don't know the reason, but it shows on Blood …

Re: Openglhq and Direct3d in Dosbox

Good question, especially now that Ykhwong has disappeared :( And direct3d is the only output that seems to be able to do full-screen, aspect correct high/true-color VESA modes. (But if anyone can advise how to set up all of them (not just one, fixed resolution) to correctly fill an approppriate …

Re: DOSBox with a Really Fast Processor

gulikoza wrote: Perhaps read the topic here and ask if something is not clear enough 😀 Thanks, I'll probably give it another try when I get home (Monday, perhaps?). Maybe I don't have more interest in using 3Dfx at the moment than Qbix has in implementing it 😅

Re: DOSBox with a Really Fast Processor

Sorry, in the last 2 years sometimes I've really tried to understand what on earth I need to run that in glide, but I've never got past that 'pci bus not found' message... I've searched on the forum and in google, no success :s-face: Maybe my fault, yes, but I'm over a few hours of work on this …

Re: DOSBox with a Really Fast Processor

Blood is absolutely playable on an (overclocked) E6420 @ 3.33GHz in 800x600 while it could lag on my previous rig (athlon xp @ 2.22GHz) even in 320x200. That's what I call nice improvement...! Tomb Raider in 640x480 could really use some more strength though... or maybe a better JIT compiler ;) I've …

Re: Rates Poll

I configure all of them to 48khz. It originates in the fact that otherwise my old live! did some resampling on them. Now I have an x-fi but I did not feel like changing them, I don't think I would gain anything (neither speed nor quality-wise) if I set them to 44.1 or 96khz 😁
