Why bother with DOS software in Windows when you can use DOSbox? It emulates all common graphics cards, sound cards and ports old software expects. I think, this topic was about native 16 bit Windows software. And those should work with any 32 bit Windows.

I used Windows 7 on my old Athlon XP, and it did run 16 bit software. With 64 bit, Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, there was XP mode, supporting 16 bit software. There are no less than 10 Doom source ports, why not just use one of them instead. I prefer GZDoom myself, but you could use Chocolate Doom for a purely vanilla play. Exactly. Or if you want high resolution, but keep it close to vanilla, use PrBoom. That probably would be the closest to Doom95's …

"dir /s" goes through all sub-directories recursively. It is not a tree view, but it lists every file with date and size. If you also need hidden and system files, add "/a". Also "help" is a very useful command. It even used to be hypertext, but it isn't anymore.

Most games ported from other systems suffer more or less. C64 and Atari games are reduced to PC speaker. And later, Amiga games were reduced to Adlib music.
