Re: MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA Converter Released!

Ooooooooo! :o I have seen the composite videos from Oct-Nov and I was wondering what happened to that mode , I have seen the posts on VCF You realize this is a huge deal as it would allow the games that support such modes to be fully experienced even by people that only have a ttl monitor or clone …

Re: MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA Converter Released!

^ this is a non-option actually... for example you have pushed a new version in the mean time that improves mono modes. At least look at these pics and consider the new scanlines implementation. http://i.imgur.com/8UKmNIZ.png full-res crt: https://i.imgur.com/ztoPnF5.jpg full-res old fw: https://i. …

Re: When will Microsoft finally die?

in Milliways
MS isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Both userbase and hardware support are too large for this to happen and nothing atm comes even close. I am also not pleased with windows past 7 - and this is what I will continue to use until the point it's considered really obsolete.

Re: MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA Converter Released!

I tried the new firmware , the scanlines are really stronger in this one! Maybe it's my 24" monitor but they are too strong for my taste tbh... is there a chance of a test fw that has scanlines at some middle value between this last fw and the ones we had until now?

Re: MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA Converter Released!

retrocanada76 what do you mean by "it would be wiser to add a 0.01uf capacitor on this TTL as well" ? I don't understand where should this be added? I also soldered my pulldowns as well - had to manually make the networks with 1% 0603 resistors but I think it turned out fine  http://i.imgur.com …

Re: Help me fix a RIVA128 card.

@shamino Just for the shake of discussion it is the normal in this type of plastic package (and there were electrolytic caps using this plastic package in the 90s and early 00s) that the stripe indicates the positive side, the capacitor might be tantalum/eletro/polymer/whatever but the positive is …

Re: Help me fix a RIVA128 card.

I am not so sure this is a tantalum capacitor - it really looks like a normal old-style electrolytic smd one I have a couple Riva128 cards and both use eletrolytics on this location, infact I have the non-DELL STB version that you can see here: http://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/component/k2/item/ …

Re: MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA Converter Released!

Thanks both for the replies :) It's not possible to use a hole-thru resistor network with the dreamblaster version because the LVC245 is a SMD device. So the only solution would be to solder 0603 single resistors either on the pins of the DB9 connector at the back or directly to the respective input …

Re: MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA Converter Released!

I've been also meaning to ask about Jepael's pulldown resistors on the EGA port , is adding them an extra layer of protection for the EGA card? If one adds them then a new FW is needed to compensate for them? Even with the existing boards adding pulldown resistors on the DB9 port is easy if one uses …

Re: MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA Converter Released!

In the commit: "Calibrate the CGA colors according to CGACAL" I also changed the voltage of the pins from 2.5V to 3.3V to have voltages close to 0.7v as required to VGA. Could be it ? Try the commit previous this one. I have tried the previous commit labeled "Experimenting the 720x480 resolution …
