get an nVidia Riva128 ... I can highly recommend it for DOS and in 98SE I can use 1280*1024 just fine (haven't tried higher res since that's the native res of the monitor I use it with) I don't have a clue about 3.1 though.

I've only used rtl cards tbh, they are just too common... even the dlink nic I tried was a rebadged rtl one... I just found that FlashFXP does not work with the ftpsrv , no dir listing or transfers... filezilla works fine though... I am getting ~1.5mb/sec , not bad! SIS based 5x86/133 system, …

@sklawz: yeah that was a wrong shot, I corrected the post with the correct one, no -i used meanwhile I found the problem .... it was the PCI slot. Interesting, I never thought it would consume any ram at all, from what I understood it just patched the bios to enable correct hdd support, I always thought it used the ram assigned to BIOS that is not usable at the end user ....

jaqie is on the right track IMHO. I use OnTrack Disk Manager with my IBM 386 machine and I have installed and working a 20GB HDD on it.... no need to hunt down scsi controllers and horrible old scsi drives....
