I have a SY-4SAW2 , I use a common Realtek 8136d card and it works fine as long as you don't put in in the last pci slot near the isa slots (it's a slave slot). I haven't used 98 though, only networking with DOS and win3.11 ... Maybe you need to install some SIS drivers for 98?

yes you are right about the w3start patch, it's used to run win3x not install it... anyways the FAT32 problem is there and is known for a long time... maybe AdamP your 3.x partition was a small one (~2-8GB?) and that's why you did not get it....?

I need to report that riva128/TNT agp/pci cards do not play very well in 3.11 when you have installed the nvidia driver. You get awesome speed BUT you also get awesome craches, gpf faults and some rare hard freezings. 🙁 sad but true. In DOS/9x the cards work perfect.

My personal opinion on Jason Scott is that he is doing a service to humanity. The cd.textfiles archive is a pure treasure to anyone interested in computing history. Many things would be lost without him archiving and offering them to the public and I really like the guy and his style 😀

if I am not mistaken that card is an interface for a bus mouse ... so without a bus mouse (bus being the name of the interfacing protocol 🤣) it is useless AFAIK

I bet it's faster (how much is a mystery though), IMHO it would be easier for the hardware designers to make a custom/direct connection to the vga part than making an interface to simulate a 2nd pci card for the pcx2 and transfer data twice pcx2->bus->vga ...
