IMHO, the sata/pata drives are not to blame, are you sure you have installed the sata drivers BEFORE you made the image? Windows don't care from what disk you boot them from (it's all hard disks to them) but they DO care if they want to load a sata driver and cannot find it...

Perhaps you need to try to and get a CM-32L or a CM-64L , they are both MT32 compatible, but have extra sfx (like the internal ISA LAPC-I) that are used in some games (for ex. Ultima Underwold 1 , you can hear footsteps)
