I upgraded to directX 9.0c found here: http://www.falconfly.de/directx.htm now Montezuma's Return works fine 😀 (I use amigaMerlin 2.9 voodoo3 drivers)

I recenlty got a sealed copy of Montezuma's Return, a nice game BUT due to a bug (I assume) the 3DFX version does not start the game if you have a voodoo3 (that I have) , but there is a work-around... If you open a directX screen , or do something that opens a directX screen before the game, then it …

did some tests (no hdtach, winNT only) and I got a combined perfomance of ~15mb/s and cached ~78mb/s ... some tests like 512kb/1MB score ~25mb/s I think it is allright for the typical onboard controller with a 40GB HD...

Yes, voodoo3 just use AGP interface and nothing else... the voodoo4500 is the only PCI card on my test machine, there are also a lapc-i and a sb16+db60xg there, but those are both ISA devices... I doubt that ALI has a poor pci bus implementation , compared to VIA MVP3 it just rocks (but slightly …

So, it has integrated OPL4 wavetable synthesizer, my YAMAHA Sound-Edge has the same.... YAMAHA used to make those combo chips (1xopl3/sb + opl4) for cheap cards/onboard audio... and they work really well! OPL4 comes usually with 2MB ROM, and is a standar GM suynthesizer, with great YAMAHA quality …

my advice would be a K6-II cpu... I currenlty use the 400mhz version... One thing that I like about it (except being fast) is that it does not produce the error:200 on old programs that cannot cope with fast cpu's...
