Simcity 2000 was pretty good for sure, but god did I hate having to deal with the plumbing. For this reason I prefer the original, especially the Amiga version. I think my favourite part of SC2000 was reading the news reports in their fake newspaper.

I was always under the impression that a 16-bit ISA slot at 8MHz topped out at 5MB/sec for non-DMA file transfers. (DMA transfers should be slower).

Weren't there also 3.3V DX2s? How do we know that this isn't one of them? I seem to recall many 3.3V DX2s could overclock to DX4-100 with ease. Best check the s-spec.

512kb actually isn't too bad. You can do up to 800x600 in 256 colours, so it's fine for stuff like Windows 3.x.

I highly recommend you get 9-chip memory. Although the 3-chip memory has parity and should be functionally identical, in practice 9-chip 30-pin SIMMs are a hell of a lot more compatible. I have a lot of motherboards and memory cards that don't function at all with the 3 chip stuff.

There are websites that can help you get things off Taobao, just as there are to get things from yahoo auctions Japan. I'm pretty sure the SXLC2-50 can cope with a 50MHz bus. I have the 386DX version, the SXL2-50, and I run it at 1x50 with no problems.

I'd check the solder joints on the memory sockets. Also, as far as I know with this card it can work with only the DIP RAM sockets filled. My card has the DIP sockets filled and uses the SOJ sockets to upgrade to 2MB. I suggest filling those and removing the SOJ chips to see if it makes a difference …
