The motherboard won't have jumpers for 1X, because in 486s the multipliers hard hard wired into the CPUs. The DX4 only supports 2X and 3X. If you want to get 33MHz, you'll have to drop the FSB down to 16MHz.

I believe the main IC and RAMDAC are also from the first week of 1994 on the Mach32 card. Everything points to early 94.

As far as I know, the 968 was a drop in replacement for the 964. I think the Mach64 may have also been a drop in replacement for Mach32. What I know for certain is that Diamond makes a Stealth64 card that has either the 868 or 864, but exactly the same PCB.

In the past some people used caching controllers, but since modern hard drives have so much cache of them, and because CF is so fast is seems to make the caching controller unnecessary. Well, wide SCSI at least, which is what this card supposedly is (I disagree), can do 20MB/sec. 50 pin "narrow" Fast SCSI is up to 10MB/sec. Under normal conditions, I don't know that ISA can handle more than 5MB/sec.

The frequency at which your computer and it's components in determined by a separate crystal, there is not one integrated into the CPU or FPU, and unlike modern CPUs there is no hardware governing the operating speed.

What you are proposing is technically possible, but probably very difficult to pull off. You need a 968 card that allows you to disable its vga core. That would allOw two graphics cards to coexist. The bigger problem is going to be the pass through cable. Most cards use the older feature connector …

Trio32 and Trio64 should have near identical performance in dos. Trio32 is I'll be a little slower in windows and support lower refresh rates, however.

You could always try a powerleap adapter. I tried something similar in my OPTi based EISA dual Pentium system, but the L2 cache could not be enabled.I think L1 was still working, but I can't remember. My system has an OEM motherboard though, so you might do better with your generic UMC motherboard. …

C&T 38600DX is out there. Not impossible to find, but these days a little expensive due to collectors. Probably not worth the effort. There's also a version of that chip with 512 bytes of internal cache, but it uses a proprietary pin arrangement and motherboard. Never seen one before.

According to the markings on your stickers, it should be the UMC chipset. I am pretty certain that two chip OPTi solution is either the 495SLC or the 495XLC, and the name on the sticker would reflect that. I haven't seen one yet, but I would guess something along the lines of "82C495"

I am not aware of any incompatibilities between the Intel FPUs and the 486DLC, but what's funny is that certain versions of the DLC don't work with certain versions of Cyrix's own FPUs.
